Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony's diversity with its exclusive games is becoming uhhh non-diverse as before

Is Sony becoming a little too non-diverse?

Absolutely YASSSS 4 12.50%

Nintendo is even more div... 2 6.25%

Maybe 1 3.13%

A little 0 0%

Sony is the king of diver... 12 37.50%

Not really 13 40.63%

Total:32

If you want RPGs there are plenty in the consoles catalogue. If you want a NS just get one, but most, if not nearly all, of the indies/niche games you are talking about are also on PS4 anyway.

There is a lot of diversity in PS software and attach rates, software sales and hardware sales show Sony is far from doomed.

So your idea of Sony not being diverse, or in your words "less diverse" is based purely on the fact that they haven't released a first party JRPG this gen?

I don't think you understand what diversity means. A mixture of original IP, sequels, remakes, popular and niche genres, bigger and smaller budgets, first and third party, etc is plenty diverse. Are you sure you don't mean unique? Hard to do that in an increasingly saturated medium (let alone with any confidence in success), but Dreams is about as unique as it gets and they're doing their damnedest to embrace VR.

Let me rephrase it to for everyone. I want more games(not exclusively JRPGs) than what Sony currently offers. Simpler, smaller and double Abudget. Something to keep people entertained while you wait for the bigger games.

They make or commission plenty of those, too. Concrete Genie, Inpatient, Firewall, Blood & Truth, more I'm probably forgetting.

If Sony could waste hundreds of millions  of dollars on a flop like Blade Runner the film... I am confused why they can't do the same it for Playstation when it's their most profitable business.

I'm confused. Do you want niche/risky games with smaller budgets (above) or bigger budgets (Detroit, Dreams)?

kurasakiichimaruALT said:

Playstation used to be known as a place for niche games and now Nintendo Switch is becoming that console at the pace they are going with.

Support your argument. How many niche games did Nin release last year compared to Sony? How about this year's lineup?

kurasakiichimaruALT said:

Sony used to provide something different that third party developers don't and I don't see that anymore.

Wth do you call Dreams?

kurasakiichimaruALT said:

PS4 lacks identity.

Its identity is the home console with something for almost everyone. This is supported by the lower individual game sales but higher attach rates and overall hardware and software sales.

kurasakiichimaruALT said:

Steam provides something that Sony don't.

Each big platform provides something the others don't.

kurasakiichimaruALT said:

Switch will be more successful and compelling than PS4 as time goes by.

Starting to think I'm being taken for a ride...

kurasakiichimaruALT said:

Nintendo invented an amazing console and Sony should be threatened by it if they keep on sticking with their conservative approach on software development.

Why should Sony feel threatened when they just had their best year yet doing everything you just criticized while the Switch hardly competes in the same market?

A mixture of games with long developments? PS4 may have a diverse library but the wait is too long.

Dreams When was it announced? Wild? Detroit? It took years and it's still not even released and I'm not here for that. Can't call it diverse when it's not even out yet. :p

Why should Sony feel complacent? Do you actually believe Nintendo is not trying to eat Sony's lunch with the switch? haha

How is Nintendo eating Sony's lunch? PS4 just had the best year of it's life, which has proven that Switch has had absolutely no effect on PS4.

It has also proven that the average gamer is not buying the Switch but only Nintendo fans who will run out sooner rather than later, and Switch sales will likely drop like a rock.

Lol, talk about reaching...

Do you actually believe they are when they're both retreating to their home turfs (Sony more home focused, Nin more mobile) and focusing on different audiences? They both just had excellent years without stepping on each others toes.

How am I reaching? You think the long development of Playstation exclusive games are just fairy tales and dreams. No pun intended. :p

Nintendo retreating to mobile? Jeez. Switch is a console. A hybrid. Sony should take them as a threat. Do you see how easy it was for half of PS2 players to jump on board on 360? Saying Switch is not a threat is just laughable at best. That thing still has no smartphone functionality yet. Imagine the iterations? That could kill Playstation if they don't try a little harder. haha

It's actually Sony has retreated from their identity of bringing games unique to their ecosystem. Exclusives are running dry. They just buy time-exclusives or content  It's only a matter of time when the public catches on that.

You do know PS4 will not continue to sell forever but games will what give the system longevity as long as it's not stuck in development hell like  Dreams or Wild. :p

If someone asks why I'm using an alt account, CGI and Truckusaurus got me a temp approval until I get my iconic and notorious "kurasakiichimaru" account back. :p

I respectfully disagree. I really like that cut the wierd artistic crap of PS3 days and sticking to what the people want.
There are a steady stream of creative indies on PS4, so I would rather just focus the big AAA games that will single-handedly move PS4s, which Uncharted 4/Horizon have done, and GOW/Spiderman will also do.

They should just stick to what works, and clearly making story-driven single player games is working for them.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

There's a thing call franchise/genre fatigue.

Sony is close to flooding the market with some similar but not oh so similar games with similar themes but not oh similar hooks or setting. I love the look of God of War but can anyone deny it has not taken any pointers from Naughty Dog?

I think Dreams is the most ambitious and different from what Sony is about to offer but I also don't like the fact it stayed too long in development which hurt Media Molecule's output for the PS4. They could've made LBP themselves but the long development of Dreams... probably killed their time for it even if they wanted to do it.

By implying development time somehow has anything to do with diversity...

It's a glorified handheld with a tv out (something you could do back on the PSP). For a handheld, it's great. For a home console, it sucks ass.

Why’s should Sony develop a first party JRPG when stuff like this is coming out?!

Guys, you should really stop arguing with this guy. He’s clearly got a very selective recognition.

Sony has way too many weeb games already. Not a fan of those type of game, I just want Sony to make more shooters.

Long developments cost time and money. Guess what? Making games also cost time and money. lol

I don't get what you mean by the facts say otherwise. Ehh... Nothing you said were facts and just subjective and full of bias.

And tell that to a big portion of 10 million Nintendo fans loving Switch while using it docked mode. haha
