Just look at 3ds sales, switch will follow a similar pattern, but be way more front loaded due it having most if its big franchises released early, and the small user base that still  buys nintendo consoles giving it a boost. in reality if ps4 released in march it would have beaten the switch this year by a good margin. nintendo doesn't have third-party support,  and sales will fall hard like 3ds and N64 in the US.

Can't talk about a similar pattern when 3DS and Switch already diverted so much from each other.

aside from the price cut, there the same both handhelds, with nintendo  games selling the system. its getting a nice boost from nintendo fans that only buy home consoles and nintendo best line up ever for the year, but in 2018 it will start following 3ds sales.

Lets keep repeating the same thing over and over again thats not backed up by any evidence and pretend its a fact!!!!

Exactly my sentiments. It's not doing as poorly as some think in the U.K. but given the size of the market,  Nintendo products usually underperform over here. I think the lack of shelf space allotted to it doesn't help either.

It is not doing as poorly as the Wii U, no. It is doing much better but where the Wii U was this is not difficult.

I am not saying you are wrong but from what I see in London ( I can only speak for London, and I do get around most of it a bit. ), it is getting much better shelf space than the Wii U ever did. Granted it is not at the level of the other consoles BUT it is still far better than the Wii U.

Why I agree with you that it is not doing as poorly as some think is that Amazon UK and Argos always seem to be low or out of stock, 9 months later. You couldn't give away a Wii U in the UK after 6 months. No one wanted it.

Walking past a CeX at lunch yesterday it was surprising to see the Switch as their center piece item. I walked in pretending to be interested in buying it and they said they had only just put it in the window and it was their only one. They got a handful after xmas and they all sold out quickly. They were selling it above the RRP.

I know this is no big deal but we are talking about a Nintendo console in the UK.

I honestly believe these positive sales in the USA will give UK Switch sales a nice boost.

Yes i agree. It is getting better retail space than the Wii u but that's to be expected. Not on the level on the Wii yet but from my anecdotal evidence it is slowly getting there. Better in specialised games stores but supermarkets and other places leave a lot to be desired. As for sales, it appears to be picking up, at least in the major European markets at least. That's the impression i get, anyway. I think people misconstrue Nintendo's popularity in the U.K.  Certainly not its strongest market but nowhere near its weakest. Somewhere in the middle i'd say. So mediocre to good imo.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Nah. Switch will outsell it there. It's worldwide where the PS4 will stay ahead.

3DS launched at 250$, and dropped to 170$ in 5 monhts, Switch launched at 300$ and it has not dropped in price yet, the reason is because the demand is still too high and it won't go anywhere, expecially because Switch had shortages for almost all year.

But hey ok, think what you want, think that if PS4 was released in March it would have sold more than in the holidays :D

The Switch was at about 2.62M at the end of October, so this means that combined Nov.+Dec. sales were at least 2.18M. We never got an exact number for November, but assuming it was between 750-800k we can peg December at around 1.4M, plus or minus several hundred thousand.

Oh, and I can't help but mention that in this case a launch-aligned comparison isn't exactly apt. After 10 months, no other console had a full non-launch holiday season. The the PS1 & N64's 10th month would have been a June, the PS2's would have been a July, and every other console from the Xbox & GameCube up to the PS4 & XBO would have their 10th month in an August.

Not trying to downplay the Switch's excellent first year. Just putting it into perspective. A better comparison would be to compare the Switch to the first full calendar year of those other systems. Granted, the Switch didn't have a full Q1, but its March was comparable to the first Q1 of other successful systems. Comparing the Switch's 2017 to the first full calendar year of other systems from the past four generations, we get this:

Not nearly as good as the Wii or PS2, but those are very high bars that we shouldn't expect anything else to reach. But it is a bit ahead of the PS4 & N64.

i post this chart to show first year sales doesn't mean as much a people think it does. i

it had a million preorders 3 months before launch, and sold out within 24 hours. only shipped round 700k for December. it could have sold around the same easy for april in march, just like wii and 360 could sold the same if released in a none  holiday period.

it still sold a 1 million units in 24 hours, basically sold out day one, you had to have a preorder to get one. i know cause i bought 5 and sold for profit.
