Well done. Nintendo surpassing another one of there product records. Deserves to be in the history books.
I hope they show Metroid Prime 4 at this years E3.

What I really found amusing was his lamentations over the "failure" of the XB1.
"The XB1X is a Ferrari (compared to the Switch) that people sit in to look cool but it is not really going anywhere" ..... or something along those lines.

We never got an exact number for November, but assuming it was between 750-800k we can peg December at around 1.4M, plus or minus several hundred thousand. Oh, and I can't help but mention that in this case a launch-aligned comparison isn't exactly apt. After 10 months, no other console had a full non-launch holiday season. The the PS1 & N64's 10th month would have been a June, the PS2's would have been a July, and every other console from the Xbox & GameCube up to the PS4 & XBO would have their 10th month in an August. Not trying to downplay the Switch's excellent first year. Just putting it into perspective. A better comparison would be to compare the Switch to the first full calendar year of those other systems. Granted, the Switch didn't have a full Q1, but its March was comparable to the first Q1 of other successful systems. Comparing the Switch's 2017 to the first full calendar year of other systems from the past four generations, we get this: Not nearly as good as the Wii or PS2, but those are very high bars that we shouldn't expect anything else to reach. But it is a bit ahead of the PS4 & N64. |
That is a very nice graph that try to align for something that is a lot more "fair" on showing Switch is still managing to stay ahead of PS4 and X1 on first year... I also believe most distortions will erase when we compare PS4 2014 to Switch 2018.

xbox one was sold out during the holidays just google, but yea at 499$ your probably right. i thought it launched at 399$. |
Nope X1 wasn't sold out during launch or any other period to any serious amount... you could find brand new Day One editions 6 months after launch.

The latest US chart is form 18/11 and shows around 3 milion units. So 6 weeks until end of the year and reported 4.8 milion Switches sold, we should see on average 300k units per week in US alone.

Again, this response has nothing to do with my actual post..? I wonder what's going on here. Anyway, it's not impossible for the Switch to outsell the PS4 in the US. It's unlikely, sure, and I don't think it'll happen but it isn't completely delusional to believe in it. |
Oh, come on! Like Hillary would have done any better!

you're not convincing with that weak argument. motion control era fad is dead, and handhelds will not go back to selling that amazing again with mobile tech where it is now, but hey anything is possible. |
Man, a WW victory for Switch is quite improbable, but to outsell PS4 on USA isn't... because of X1 strong presence in USA, PS4 won't sell number similar to PS2, Wii or X360 in USA while Switch can sell great numbers so even if unlikely it isn't preposterous to think it can.

I don't get it? I was talking about just those countries. Obviously Europe is a no-no. |
The 3DS is currently still outselling the PS4 in France and that country seems to have taken well to the switch (if Amazon is to be believed). It is very possible for the Switch to outsell the PS4 in France as it is effectively replacing the 3DS.

I think Switch is more popular in Canada and South Korea. There may be a few other, admittedly small markets but yeah that's possibly it. There is a slim possibility it may have a fighting chance in France, its most popular European country. Or i guess it could catch on in China and/or India. |
The Switch+ games has done surprisingly well in France and Germany of all places. UK is a significant improvement over WiiU, but still pretty meh overall.
