Forums - Gaming - I think the Sega Genesis HD flash back is better than SNES classic.

Every time I see a list for one of these throwback consoles I wince at how limited the library is, or how much is taken up with "classics" that haven't aged well whatsoever.

At any rate, I recommend grabbing a pad of graph paper, pencils with good erasers, and try Shining the Darkness. Unlike many of the old first person RPGs of the day, this one has tons of personality, smooth scrolling, and doesn't look/play like a half-assed PC port.

I've read that the sonic games in particular do not run well on this?

any truth to that?

The SNES Mini has Mega Man X, which is the best game ever made, so it wins by default. It could have only this single game and it would still win. But it also has some other of the best games ever.

It's just the old thing about quality over quantity. I would choose 10 really good games over 85 mediocre ones any day of the week.

Although tha list of games is pretty impressive quality wise, my gripe is the lack of games. Only Megaman X, and not X2 and X3, or Megaman 7. Donkey Kong Country, and not 2 or 3.

By the way, I just noticed that the NA version of SNES Mini has PAL/SFC X and Y buttons coloured as the NA buttons. That's at least what it looks like in the pictures.

I hacked my SNES classic and added in Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 plus a few dozen of my other favorite games like Lufia 2, Harvest Moon, Killer Instinct, Strike Gunner, Breath of Fire and so on.
I do concur with you, out of the box the game selection on the SNES Classic leaves a ton to be desired, massive omission not giving the entire trilogy of Donkey Kong on the system.

The emulation quality of the SNES classic though is easily a step up over the Flashback consoles, still not perfect of course, there are a few sound issues in Super Metroid in Ridley's lair for instance.

Analogue are doing a SNES console.
(The people who made that well received FPGA NES)

Lag input prevents me from using these things. When modern tv sets can give me the 0ms lag of a CRT, I'll buy in. Until then, it's going to be the real consoles on CRT or nothing.

So far I've played and beaten Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. No issues from me at all. Very playable and awesome to say the least. Going through the first phantasy star. I'm still at the begining, but no issues so far regarding that game.

The only legit issue I have with the console is the controller. I don't like the screw on back for the batteries and the sensor can be blocked easily. Other than that it works like a charm.

Pretty hostile response to someone giving an opinion.

Please get real..... you call that hostile?

The dude could have just come and said he thinks the thingy is underated. Thats what i would consider just giving an opinion. No need to start the whole this is better than that nonsense.

Mind you, i don't have any of them so its not like i am here defending one or the other. Just feel starting off like that isn't necessary. You don't have to talk down something to  draw attention to something else.

And you could have said, "That's cool, I don't think many will agree, though". But instead you implied he's trying to start a retro console was and asked him why he even cares, which by the way doesn't even make sense as a line of questioning. He stated he liked the Genesis retro more than the SNES retro, so what justification do you really have to make such hostile comments? Did he kill your goldfish or something?

Watch me stream games and hunt trophies on my Twitch channel!

My main issue with it is it looks unprofessional. There's been plenty of way to get old games running on a TV. But most of the time they are not authentic in their design and the quality is lacking. What makes the new mini and snes mini appealing is they have nailed to look exactly and the look and feel of the hardware is top notch.

The funny thing is I prefer the actual snes over the actual genesis (both great consoles). Regarding these retro throwback consoles, I just think the sega genesis flash back is better value.

Looks snes classic...looks to genesis flash back...They both miss so many games......

Just give me another one of those PS3/360 genesis collections but then on this gen consoles and add a few more games.  If I remember the one on last consoles had between 40-50 of them for a nice price.
