I wouldn't trust that $200M. The source for it on Wikipedia seems dubious, at best. I mean do you honestly think that Disney spent less on this in 2017, than they did on Avengers ($220M) in 2012 or Avengers:AOU ($250M) in 2015? TFA cost $275M.  Since that was such a success, more than likely the budget would have either stayed about the same or gone up to a possible $300M.

I didn't get that number from wikipedia but for sure, let's just assume an extra $100M out of Disney's Star Wars wallet. Would you like to upsize that small order of fries?

Then, by all means, give your source.

My source? None of us has a source for the costs, lol, it's a rough estimate. Why else would I give way to your assumption that it cost upwards of $300M so easily? We're going with $300M from here on out to make your argument to my original case easier, your welcome. Do you have an actual response or are you going to just ask questions of unobtainable circumstance?

So you don't trust the $200M, but you trust the $220M, $250M and $275M? Seems a bit... selective.

Wednesday numbers are in. TLJ did $1.74M. That's only 0.5% better than RO for the same day. The rate that TLJ has been outperforming RO, outside of opening weekend, has fallen to 8.4%.

Those are numbers posted by BOM. They only post official numbers. If a studio doesn't give them official numbers, or they don't have a reliable source, they leave the budget as N/A.

To believe a source from Wikipedia, that was just a number thrown out from a person who's just a writer for Wired trying to defend the movie's performance, over official sources is being selective and biased.

It also seems China has completely rejected this movie. After it's opening weekend it only made $7M for the entire week. It has now been removed from 92% of its screenings.

I guess part of the factor for it is that they are not interested in movies like Star Wars. The audience reception is a big factor for that as well.

Inflation adjusted domestic take for TLJ:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=starwars.htm

1 Star Wars Fox $1,274,614,700 $307,263,857 5/25/77
2 Star Wars: The Force Awakens BV $965,467,800 $936,662,225 12/18/15
3 Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Fox $757,494,400 $431,088,295 5/19/99
4 Return of the Jedi Fox $723,181,600 $252,583,617 5/25/83
5 The Empire Strikes Back Fox $704,239,800 $209,398,025 5/21/80
6 Star Wars: The Last Jedi BV $578,595,600 $578,595,635 12/15/17
7 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story BV $539,743,700 $532,177,324 12/16/16
8 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Fox $529,768,500 $380,270,577 5/19/05
9 Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones Fox $464,469,500 $302,191,252 5/16/02
10 Star Wars (Special Edition) Fox $268,985,300 $138,257,865 1/31/97
11 The Empire Strikes Back (Special Edition) Fox $131,513,600 $67,597,694 2/21/97
12 Return of the Jedi (Special Edition) Fox $88,464,300 $45,470,437 3/14/97
13 Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (in 3D) Fox $48,992,400 $43,456,382 2/10/12
14 Star Wars (Re-issue) Fox $47,007,900 $15,476,285 8/13/82
15 Star Wars: The Clone Wars WB $43,731,600 $35,161,554 8/15/08
16 The Empire Strikes Back (Re-issue) Fox $40,325,500 $13,276,241 11/19/82
17 Return of the Jedi (Re-issue) Fox $28,304,600 $11,252,123 3/29/85
18 Attack of the Clones: The IMAX Experience (IMAX) Fox $13,003,900 $8,485,488 11/1/02

TLJ will probably end around $600 million or so domestic, which is may a tad lower than what Disney would want but I don't think it's that terrible of a result.

It would be probably be closer to $700 mill if Rogue One didn't come out last year and you kept the franchise fresher and allowed hunger to build up.

I tend to prefer to use the general rate of inflation rather than ticket inflation. The problem with using ticket inflation is it's a double edged sword for modern movies. Yes, a single ticket eats up more money, but the downside to that is because movie tickets are a more pricey proposition today most people rarely see the same movie twice anymore, let alone 3/4/5 times as was common in the 70s/80s/90s/earlier part of 2000s.

And yes, Empire is a fairly large drop off from ANH in both original release and for the Special Editions too.

Seems like nothing changed.

It's funny because I never once mentioned wikipedia but he's going off on a tangent about wikipedia numbers. If someone doesn't have an argument, they shouldn't argue. I even gave him the $300M figure he wanted to attach to TLJ, but oh well.
