Forums - Movies & TV - You going to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi this weekend? How was it? 220 million first weekend domestic, more than entire Justice League run

It was a mixed bag for me. Some scenes were inspired while others were impotent. The plot and pacing were kinda all over the place, Snoke was underdeveloped, but production values at least were reliably solid and in general it ended better than it started. I think JJ can do a better job with E9 if he tells a more original story this time around.

This, exactly.

Saw it already. I hated it. The Last Jedi is really shite sans a few scenes. Star Wars is going in a very wrong direction. Next year, when the movie is out of theatre, I will post a full review/rant here.

I just saw it and gosh. I don't know what to say. I liked it more than The Force Awakens but damn... They shit the bed with this one. I can't really say much about what was wrong without spoiling it, but it single handedly betrays a lot of what Star Wars is all about. Furthermore it's not much of a sequel to TFA or even really fits with the rest of the saga. People are right about Snoke being underdeveloped. In fact his character holds no meaning to this trilogy at all. He's more or less a plot device to drive Kylo Ren. Speaking of plot... The Last Jedi has a plot but offers little in terms of story and narrative. It's very inconsistent and drops a lot of plot points. For example the Knights of Ren have been dropped entirely from the series.

Something I find interesting is that there was a plot script that was released last year for the film. A number of things were correct. The title being "The Last Jedi", a new character named "Captain Canady", a Casino planet, and major epic space battles along with Poe being a star of them. That being said the plot was changed drastically for being too ambitious, too big in terms of scope and vision, and potentially too much risk in terms of plot twists. It's a lot more "Rain Johnson" than what we got. The script is much more consistent with TFA, includes the Knights of Ren which played a major role, and Snoke was a huge character and consistent with the books. The narrative over all was amazing and one of the best in the series. I really wished I knew what went wrong with this films production. It's clear from watching it that Disney really backed down on their grand vision for this trilogy. I still got a copy of the script if anyone really wants it.

If anyone has any questions, I'll answer them with spoiler tags.

Spoilers ahead!!! It was a travesty. Luke Skywalker has turned into a loser. Rian Johnson doesn't understand Luke at all. Yoda shouldn't be using the force as a force ghost, if so then he should be fighting alongside the Resistance. Rey is like the most poweful Jedi without any real training. Snoke was a decent copy of the Emperor but they killed him 1 film too soon. The asian girl didn't need to be in this film, her character added nothing.

There is a racist/sexist agenda against white men in this film, aside from Luke they had no speaking parts on the Resistant side but all of The First Order were white men. So white men are viewed as evil and the women and minorities need to band together to take them out. This is completely disgusting. Why is Disney promoting this bigotry against white men?!

Sales prediction, PS4: 122 Million, Xbox one: 50 million, Switch: 105 million.

I expect it to do worse than Episode 7 just because episode 7 sucked. I'm sure many won't even bother.

Actually, i wouldn't even bother with episode 8 if i wasn't being literally dragged to watch it.

Hopefully it's better and doesn't murder the laws of physics and common sense again. Magically bending energy beams... i tell you! Theres a fine line between fantasy and outright stupid.

Saw it two days ago. I thought it was a great movie, but brace yourself, this is really unlike any Star Wars movie you ever saw and it takes a lot of risks.

And ignore the usual whining.

You have a terribly poor interpretation of this movie... Seriously.

It's better than Episode VII and it's creative. It doesn't rip off ESB either lmao.

Oh and if you need to know if it defies the laws of physics or goes full blown stupid at a few parts. It does.

Leia is blown up into space and her body begins to freeze. She then uses the force to "Superman" herself through space back into the ship.

Though the whole light speed stuff was done very cool in this movie. Different from the other Star Wars films but it's very much core to the main plot of the film. It's kind of an escape film.

Another odd scene is on Crait where Luke Skywalker walks alone into the middle of the battle field as everyone evacuates and Kylo Ren orders all weapons and the full might of the first order to be turned onto Luke Skywalker. Every AT-M6 unloads on Luke. Huge explosions going for a good 30 seconds in one spot like an episode of Dragon Ball Z. Absolute non-stop sheer fire power all in one location. After the explosions are done Luke Skywalker stands there unscathed and undamaged. Like after everyone unloads on Perfect Cell and shits their pants after they think he's gotta be dead. Kylo is pissed and goes to fight Luke 1 on 1 and gets played like a joke. Kylo swings at Luke and Luke does a backwards Matrix dodge like Neo does in the first film with all the bullets flying at him. Kylo then slices Luke and half and turns around and Luke isn't even cut in half. Then Kylo is like "WHAT THE FUCK?!" and impales Luke and the saber goes through Luke but it doesn't hurt him. When he removes the saber there are no wounds or burn marks. There's obviously much more to that, but I'm not going to spoil the details :P
