Yeh I honestly think that a couple of posters on this site have an unhealthy obsession with MS/ Xbox and become particularly overactive whenever there is a sign of it performing well. e.g. as in the case of One X which has considerably outperformed the lower speced Pro.I believe that the XOneX has attracted some healthy fanfare and media interest (just check out YouTube these days) and will likely reinvigorate the xbox somewhat moving forward, - and especially if thay can provide price cuts to the X in 12 months time or so which will ensure some healthy level of sales moving forward.  On the other hand, the Pro unfortunately is considered to much the same in terms of power as the PS4 Slim. MS have made a great decision with the X, -and moving forward costs can be reduced with this very powerful hardware.

Or maybe some have a unhealthy obsession defending the Xbox?  It cuts both ways, you know.  I mean you get the same 3-4 posters defending the Xbox at all costs, regardless of how sound the argument is against them.

Anyway, the way I see it, MS has played it poorly.  For one, they really have nothing to push the X.  Sure, for the first year, 3rd party devs may push it a little more than the Pro, but how long will that last if sales plummet?  After then, we may see only the slightest of upgrades over the Pro.  But, that won't even really matter, as Sony will be putting out their own great lineup in '18 and '19 to show what the Pro can do.  Or the base PS4, for that matter.  It just seems like bad foresight to launch HW but promise really nothing in the future to push it.

But, more importantly, they launched it late.  Sure, that allowed them to be more powerful, but is that really going to help them in the long run?  Some time in '18 we are going to start hearing rumblings of a PS5 that will, more than likely, blow the X out of the water.  We may even get an announcement of the PS5 in '19.  That will leave MS in the same situation they found themselves in this gen, scrambling things together to have an answer to the PS.  Are they going to do what they have done the past 2 gens and just abandon their last HW shortly after next gen starts.  Wouldn't surprise me.

As far as price goes.  It's not going to do them much good if they get it down to $349-$399 in 2019, if Sony announces the PS5 at...$399.  At that point, you might as well just stick a fork in the X, it's done.  With no real exclusives pushing it.  No longer having the power argument.  And not even a real price advantage.

So you honestly think the XBOX One X is going to be priced the same as the new PS5 by the time it comes out. I don't think so. Also PS5 won't be around for at least a couple of years which is enough of a timeframe for the One x to come down in price.

Well, $349 =/= $399.  I think best case scenario is the X will be $299 in '19, either permanently or for Black Friday.

Why would Sony announce the PS5 in 2019?

Was hoping for some extra numbers with all these posts but meh, pretty much the same numbers as stated since day 1.

If MS wanted to reinvigorate XB1 sales then they would sell it at a severe loss for example XB1 X at $400 or something. At $500 they clearly did not expect good sales, but they got it from November anyways. Nice cash in their pocket + XBL users so they will continue to sell it at a high price.

I love how some of the ps guys are desperately trying to paint a bad picture for xbox/nintendo.
Doing this just makes you look worse.
I mean, just admit that other consoles are doing well too and get a move on.

I thought I was the only one who notice this while looking through the thread

Why would Sony announce the PS5 in 2019?

Why wouldn't they? This year was most likely the peak year for the PS4. Next year will more than likely either be flat or only slightly down. But, 2019 is when we're going to start seeing the decline of these then 6 year old consoles. That would be a great time to keep PS momentum going and announce the PS5, especially if it's B/C.

Besides, history shows 6 years is the standard lifespan of a Playstation generation.

PS1 - '94 to '00 = 6 years

PS2 - '00 to '06 = 6 years

The only outlier is the PS3, which lasted 7 years before its successor launched. Personally, I think that was due to it costing so much to make, Sony wanted to try and cover some the early losses. Not an issue this generation. Besides, when Sony called the Pro a mid-gen revision, I think they meant it. They also said they no longer want to get too far behind on technological advances.

Exactly, the desperation is really palpable

I'm glad everyone did really great in november, it's good to have a competitive market.

Nice cash in?!

They were basically selling both 189,- X1S and 499,- X1X at a loss....not sure if that's what cashing-in actually means...

I agree with the aforementioned statement btw. They should have sold it at 400,- no matter the loss, which could have made all the difference. Now Sony has essentially a 300-150,- price advantage for an already more attractive console. It's only gonna get worse if they don't cut price soon, which they probably will...angering early buyers just like they did at the X1 launch back then.
