But you know who really won?

Platinum Games.

And also Zelda.

But mostly Platinum.

BotW is not just game of the year, it is one of the best games ever made.

Nice to see Faker win, very well deserved.

However it is odd that SKT is there and not Samsung.

Forza 7 won best racer

Indeed it did...would’ve been really strange otherwise, considering the sceptical gaming media and according review scores.

I found it really strange that they didn’t give some of those categories any room for appreciation during the show. Why was there an audio category but no graphics?! Even best RPG was just announced in between bigger on stage announcements. Same with racer and family game...they got totally lost during the show.

If "Family Game" is meant to be played by the family as opposed to being family friendly, I think Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is easily the most fun game on that list for a family to play together. I think by that point they were just desperate to give Odyssey something, though, as it had the misfortune of always sharing a category with BotW lol

Finally, a game that actually deserves best soundtrack won it.

Geoff announced about half of the awards listed out of nowhere right before a world premiere instead of actually having it being presented onstage. If you weren't paying attention, it would be very easy to miss it. That's also how Persona 5 was announced as the winner for Best RPG.
