So, what is the reason?

I've got nothing more to say. I usually do it because I agree with the comment.

Nothing more? You never had anything to say in the first place.

You're saying that is if it's unreasonable for me to ask for proof, yet he keeps on saying "some people" without saying who he's even talking about, or which posts he is. So, I don't even know if he is talking about real people or just strawmen.

Okay, so the level of discourse in this entire topic has been atrocious. You asked for a fair amount of evidence that has been frequently refused.

I could just say something like "It's pretty clear that the Switch has the potential of cannibalizing Sony sales. If you disagree, I look forward to your numbers that prove otherwise (since the burden of proof isnt on the person making the claim, right)." That's nonsense. How can you talk to that kind of statement?

If we want a higher level is discussion that isn't based on strawmen and vagaries, I'll help you out. I went through the MC thread looking at all of the cannibalism related pieces of discussion that happened before Kerotan started this echo chamber. Even if it didn't say the word 'cannibal,' but seemed kind of related, I posted it below:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642332 -> mentions Switch taking share from PS4 (no cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642366 -> mentions Switch vs PS4 (no cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642395 -> ASKS whether Switch will start cannibalising PS4 as a point of discussion (yes cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642438 -> reiterates the question, with a personal conclusion (implied cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642452 -> Kerotan post about PS4 (no cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642481 -> replies to the question about cannibalism (yes cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642696 -> Kerotan replies to the post about cannibalism calling it a 'myth' (yes cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642739 -> replies to Kerotan and says the Switch is eating everyone's lunch (no cannibal)
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8642955 -> replies to Kerotan (yes cannibal)

Three people (including Kerotan) used this word before the thread was created.

Three.

Three does not make a myth. And one of them came in here and retracted the statement.

Interesting enough I was wrong, it was Two people (not one) that really did it when the concept of this thread was created. So two people is enough to warrant thread, neat, I will keep that in mind.

Actually I agree with Tbone, his statement isn't just about the PS4 its about lunch and everyone's lunch.

Was this thread started because of me? I never (i think) said cannibalism in the MC thread. I said switch is eating ps4 lunch

Does the TC know what Cannibalize means?

What was ps4 sales for dec for 2014/2015 each? Then maybe we can compare those 2 years instead of 2016 which is a disadvantage for the ps4

Great post.

You can argue whether it was a myth or not but the reality is this is going to become a new trend on those threads. Where people claim switch is taking ps4's sales when in reality it isn't.

That's absolutely not true. The only reason cannibalism didn't die after the first two people mentioned it was because you brought it up well after that discussion died. You have no proof to claim something as nonsensical as that.

I look forward to your proof to back it up, though, at which point I'll gladly concede.

But this time I'm not helping you.

See you in the next media create thread. I guarantee you you it will be said a lot.

The PSP did great in Japan. And the PS3 did well - for a declining console market. The PS4 will finish a bit below the PS3 and I think the support this gen for the PS console in Japan is better than last gen. They have more Yakuza games, MH, DQ. The existing big 3rd parties are still there. It’s just that console gaming is dying in Japan and no one can do anything about it.

Yep thats right. If sony is not making another Handheld or a Hybrid. How else can they compete with Nintendo.

They beat them WW . So the are happy giving up Japan yo Nintendo for the global market

Personally I'd call it spam and the mods did say they'd crack down on posts like the ones you make but looks like they never followed through.

Why do you wrote such short pointless posts? Are you trying to increase your post count or something?

No

Just proving my point.

Hence why you should get an echo tag on your profile pic.

You are right Kerotan, the Switch is not eating into PS4 sales in Japan. As you pointed out last year saw Final Fantasy, the Pro, the Slim and a price cut. It's perfectly normal for sales to be down a bit and we don't even know yet how the PS4 will sell during the holiday season in Japan.

In general, pointing out "declining" sales shortly before the holiday period is useless anyways: Back during the PS3 vs 360 days the PS3 would win most of the year but then Microsoft had these awesome Christmas promotions and thanks to Black Friday and the holidays would pass PS3 yearly sales. Same applies here: A single week in late December can eradicate most of the decline in sales that has accumulated over the whole year - the holiday period is so important for yearly sales, it can't be stressed enough (think of the 3DS in 2011 or the original DS in 2005, which trailed behind the PSP for most of the year and then sold a freaking 600k units in a single week in Japan).

The Switch also doesn't seem to draw any software support from the PS4 in Japan. Some titles are multiplatform now but that's to be expected. The Switch is instead usurping PS Vita and 3DS support (which was also to be expected). So yes, I agree with your original post.

Finally someone who addressed the point.

OK, so he was specifically referring to Nautilus and Miyamotoo. At least we can work from there.

Ok got an estimate of ps4 holiday sales.

Last 5 weeks of the year...

2014: 198k
2015: 250k
2016: who cares
2017: ???

Ps4 of 2017 should eclipse these sales figures. 2014 ps4 sold i believe total 1mil and ps4 in 2015 was higher. 2017 was believed to be the peak year but recently now its not (still very possible).

If Ps4 imo doesnt surpass those numbers in its last 5weeks then switch is definetly taking sales away from it. Im excluding 2016 because why not

The demographics for each platform are different, switch is popular with elementary to high schoolers, and small families, ps4 is popular with the highschool to college age kids, and young men, and because the latter demographic has much less free time than the former, the latter is less likely to buy a games console as they have much less time to enjoy it.

Ironically, psp, ds and 3ds seem to be the console of choice for business men who game, since they can do it during the work commute with relative ease, and the consoles themselves can be bought very cheaply pre-owned.

I have never seen anyone on their commute playing switch, it is most likely due to its size, it is not the sort of size that would be comfortable to play on a packed train.

You only really see young kids in the mall with them sat somewhere playing while thier parents do the shopping.

Back to the point, different demographics have different buying patterns and available time patterns, for example early in a year workflow is generally slow, with the days being longer people studying or working gave more time, where as kids and young teens generally make use of the time to play outside and hang out, but the closer to winter you get, the less available time college and university students have, there's exams, cramming, shorter days, businesses ramp up the workload in expectation of the holidays, (December is the most stressful month for workers in japan) where as kids are spending more time in the house bored because it's dark and cold out by 5pm, and schools out for Christmas, so they have much more time for things like gaming.

So no, ps4 sales don't cut into switch, and switch sales don't cut into ps4

Except, again, Nintendo has addressed the demographic data. About 46% of Switch owners are around the age of 25-34 and 23% are around 19-24 years of age. So its basically the college and young men you are talking about in regards to the PS4 demographic. Why are we still talking about as if the Switch is mostly popular among children to high schoolers?

Where can we access sales for q3 and q4 2016 and 2017?

I don't want to go through 48 separate MC threads to add them up..
