They're already on a wait and see path not supporting WMR headsets at the launch of XBox One. |
If VR is only available on One X, it wouldnt be very clever to launch a VR headset on a plattform when it basically has a userbase of 0.
IMO it is WAY smarter to release VR some times after you have a established userbase on One X to make vr games development a little bit attractive.
I dont think any developer would developer a VR game for the One X with 0 One Xs and 0 Mixed Reality Headsets sold so far.
Next year, we may have 5 Mio Xbone One X and 2 or 3 Mio Mixed Reality Headsets beeing sold in the market. Making both compatible then with a strong luanch (forza, halo, whatever) would be way smarter
@habam
by this logic no one would launch new consoles

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

You're right though....The XBox doesn't have the luxury the PS4 has that VR works on the base console as well. It would be suicide for them to release just another peace of expensive kit parallel to their new expensive console. We can't even be sure if they will ever jump on board this gen...It's completely dependant on the X1X's sales numbers. (I doubt we'll ever get to know them though)

They are not releasing another expensive kit though, they only need to add software support for WMR headsets and charge OR and Steam a royalty for putting their games on XBox One X. Yet maybe the games would need quite a bit of work to run on the low spec cpu and it will take some time to create the dev tools.

I know, but they'd still need to market it and get people to invest an additional 300,- and they still don't even have controllers for those things.
You know what I mean. It's not that easy and above all it would need dedication. Something that seems to be a bit absent from MS lately.

Oh I didn't realise they've released those already. Still adds to the costs even more which was my initial point. How much are they?
I think I'll pick up a vr headset very soon

On the MS store, bundle ranges from $450 to $650

The Samsung has a better screen 2880x1600 OLED, HP is 2 x 1440x1440 LCD
But yeah. the Skyrim VR Bundle which includes everything is also $450. PSVR is only 1920x1080 OLED though, but has proven itself to work reasonable well. How the MS motion controllers hold up in actual games remains to be seen. Can't find any review of Doom VFR on HMR with windows motion control or any other game. There just seems to be a witch hunt going on atm against PSVR lol. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/12/doom-vfr-review-a-rip-and-tear-delight-but-only-on-the-right-vr-setup/
It's far from perfect yet promoting not being able to move, teleport only, over free movement to bash psvr... The future of fps, teleporting... Meanwhile it's a blast to run around in Doom VFR on PSVR, moving around freely at full speed. If only you could adjust the aim height and not have the ugly guns sticking up in your view as if you're driving a gun turret. Or if they had simply stuck to the the far superior gun handling of Far point.
