Don't worry some people are not as good as reaching as you are. I applaud you, personally I didn't  think you could top something not selling out because scalpers are selling them statement from last month, but you did. Have a gold star you earned it.

Nice goal post moving.

I learned it from watching you. So you are teaching and reaching today.

UK is the 3rd largest market, right?

I believe so

1. US

2. Japan

3. UK

Not sure what comes after that, perhaps France & Germany?

Using october 14th because we have hardware and software, UK is behind France and Germany for 2017.

Yes.

US then Japan. Afterwards UK followed by France/Germany. After that is where it gets complicated. I guess Canada and Spain are 6th/7th

Someone beat me to the punch. Japan is still, by far, buying more hardware and software compared to the UK. Besides, both Nintendo and Sony are Japan based companies. That fact alone will always make Japan infinitely more important than the UK.

Sony is a Japanese based company but the game studios are based in the west. The head of Sony Japan Studio is western, the PS4 designer is western. Software sales, on consoles, surely the UK software sales are higher.

I cannot fight against this type of damage control. It's outside the realm of reality at this point. Do you truly, honestly, believe than Sony can do without Japan? Really?

What are you talking about? Where does it say $100 for any purchases over $400? You’re killing me here. The Switch’s price is usually $469. The  discount was $100. He added SMO which was $67. He then used the Amex discount to further reduce the price to $336.

You are hilarious - so hell bent on defending the discount that you didn’t even read properly.

Again - the actual price is $469.

Yes, he used an American Express card to get a $100 discount on a purchase of over $400.  This applies to ALL purchases.  That is NOT a discount on Switch itself.  It's a discount on all purchases over $400.  Including PS4 or anything else you put in your cart.

He could have purchased $400 worth of packs of bubble gum and he would have received a $100 discount for using his AMEX card.  Are you going to say bubble gum got a $100 discount now?

I dont think bubble gum got a $100 price cut during its first year so there is no comparison

Not sure i know what you're saying. You used just the week ending Oct 14th or the whole year up to Oct 14th?

UK is a tiny market compared to Japan. And Nintendo has historically always been weak in the UK while Playstation used to be a very strong brand in Japan (its freaking home country no less). If you can't tell the difference then I don't know what to tell you.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=233227

I'm adding up console sales for Japan (213k) for the same week and its no where near 300k+.  Also doing some digging (which it seems you failed to do)

Japan gaming sales (total hardware and software) from Nintendo superfan Dr. Serkan Toto (https://www.serkantoto.com/2017/01/06/size-of-japans-console-gaming-market/)

2016: 2.59 Billion (hardware $1billion, software $1.59Billion)

2015 2.77 Billion

UK totals for last year (console hardware (no PC) +software (not including digital), no PC, no Mobile, no used game sales = $2.109 billion (https://ukie.org.uk/press-release/2017/03/uk-games-market-worth-record-%C2%A3433bn-2016), they seem pretty comparable to me.

Why would you ignore mobile gaming?

Black Friday is big in the UK, but not in Japan, so that comparison makes no sense. There were huge discounts in the UK to drive sales, where were those discounts in Japan?

I used the yearly total up to october 14th since it’s the latest we have for both categories. What’s the actual state today, I don’t know and I can only speculate.

Not sure if using one week is the best measure, probably best to look at the entire year once it's over to get a better idea (especially since UK Christmas numbers are historically a very large percentage of yearly sales, even by the standards of the industry)
