Will it be in 5 weeks? Its up by less than 170k YOY and like you said, its down so far this quarter and there is no reason to think that will change since PS4 got Final Fantasy XV & Yakuza 6 in weeks 48 & 49 last year and has nothing near as big as that this year.

PS4 sold ~475k (95k/week) in the last 5 weeks of 2016. If PS4 sells 350k in the last 5 weeks of this year it will be up less than 3% YOY.

Obviously any growth is good but you are exaggerating how much its up.

Don't forget that I've read in a ton of other threads how year 4 is a consoles strongest year sales wise. So PS4 should be doing its best in all regions by that alone this year. The fact that is is slowing down this quarter and barely outselling last year says something for Japan.

This thread is very interesting. Anyway on non Switch hardware related news. Zelda has gone up by 116%! What's even more crazy is that Animal Crossing went up by like 200% and that game is five years old. Animal Crossing will leave no survivors when it launches on the Switch.

Which really makes us hope that the AC Switch game is like Q1 2018. They should have realized by now that their mobile releases bump the console games sales big time. It's like a giant massive marketing campaign. Be stupid to not have a new AC ready for early next year to relish in the current consumer awareness.

There are too many signs that hints AC in 2018 but no confirmation yet. Nintendo has been making good decisions so hopefully this will continue

Pokemon is doing just average. Nothing special. Big second week drop on MC like I expected.

*You dont kno how pokemon sales work. Your not into it, its a third version akin to Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum and to some extent BW2. First week sales were good. Opened higher than all of those games. Ltd is questionable though

Ps4 had a big Q3 because of software. Q4 this year there's been no reason for it to be up over last year. Switch was out on both Q3 and Q4 and it's having no bearing on either.

*Switch is eating everyone's lunch. Holidays its all about getting a switch. All money is going to nintendo. Its affecting ps4. (With everything else)

Last Q4 ps4 had ps4 slim + price cut, ps4 pro and FFXV. Why would it be anywhere near that this Q4? Saying it's because off the switch is just ludicrous.

*You and many people (included myself) thought ps4 would be up YoY. You were even bragging before how it could potientially hit 2mil (and be its peak)

Fact is 2017 overall is up nicely over 2016. It will be the biggest year for a PlayStation home console since the ps2 days. But yeah switch is eating it's sales LOL.

*Its not up overall nicely. This is where your cheering goes into affect. When people are using there money for nintendo products and not sonys then its "eating its lunch"

Reply to me properly and I'll read that. I don't like when people wrote replies in my post.

Correct. 3ds is beating switch at this point in time.

Of course it bothers him. Why else would he get wound up every week and feel the need to respond to every single one of these comments.

Because its hard to ignore horrible post from him and yourself. Its like its easy to catch people. You both do a great job at that lol. At least switch is in a better position then 3ds every was. So its a win for nintendo

It's actually quite easy. Do you enjoyed getting triggered every day? Some people do so it's a genuine question. Apparently you constantly downplay the UK market with your Nintendo is weak ther argument to feel better about their bad sales. I don't reply to you every time you do I because who cares. You're entitled to your biased and incorrect opinions.

At least Kerotan and Law are consistent in the different regions they post, Someone like Tbone is curiously absent in the UK threads every week because he can't make the same fiery arguments (outside the proverbial Nintendo is weak in the UK) I always find him throwing here in Japan. Maybe that should be the mantra for Playstation and Japan. Its sales are not up to snuff because Japan is their weakest market...and call it a day.

Well as a PlayStation fan it's easy to comment every region because ps4 sells well WW. But still you are right.

UK is a tiny market compared to Japan. And Nintendo has historically always been weak in the UK while Playstation used to be a very strong brand in Japan (its freaking home country no less). If you can't tell the difference then I don't know what to tell you.

UK is not a tiny market. Sony have sold a lot of ps4's there. It's not far off Japan for them.

It will be up regardless and be the best year since the ps2 for a home console.  So much to switch eating it's sales.

If 175k people win the lottery every week in a population of 35M (what the DS sold), then, yeah no more poor people.

That kind of goes against your "shortage" argument.

Your statement here makes it sound like 35 million people want the Switch (DS owners), thus only 175k available each week means that people will be scrambling for a long time to get one.

I didn’t say 35M wanted it though. I’m showing how his analogy was silly. The odds of winning the lottery is 1 over millions (you gotta use hyperbole when you have nothing to say, right?) The odds of getting a Switch are much much higher even if we assume that 35M people wanted the Switch right now. Odds are a couple of hundreds of thousands of people wanted to buy a Switch this week.

The amount of damage control in this thread by some types is astounding.

Japan is becoming irrelevant? When? How? Since when did UK (my own country) overtake Japan??

Nintendo isn't just shaking Japan, but also here on vgchartz. xD

What if it only sells 300k in the next 5 weeks? It would be down YOY and not the best year since PS2. Thats how insignificant its lead is, its going to essentially be flat YOY with roughly 1.8m sold this year and acting like thats some sort of accomplishment.

I'm adding up console sales for Japan (213k) for the same week and its no where near 300k+.  Also doing some digging (which it seems you failed to do)

Japan gaming sales (total hardware and software) from Nintendo superfan Dr. Serkan Toto (https://www.serkantoto.com/2017/01/06/size-of-japans-console-gaming-market/)

2016: 2.59 Billion (hardware $1billion, software $1.59Billion)

2015 2.77 Billion

UK totals for last year (console hardware (no PC) +software (not including digital), no PC, no Mobile, no used game sales = $2.109 billion (https://ukie.org.uk/press-release/2017/03/uk-games-market-worth-record-%C2%A3433bn-2016), they seem pretty comparable to me.

Im am biased and my incorrect opinions dont matter guys. Stay away from me!

OT: nothing can touch or compete with switch at its current price!

For home consoles? Japan has been becoming irrelevant for years now with consoles declining a lot over the past generations. Even Sony doesn’t make purely Japanese games anymore.

And I’m pretty sure UK sells more games relevant to the western market than Japan in proportion to population size. VGC says 27M games sold in the UK vs 40.5M in Japan in 2016. That game sold per head is already largely in favour of the UK before factoring digital.

According to this site

UK HW sales 2017-1.5 million

UK SW sales 2017-11.6 million

Japan HW sales 2017-5 million

Japan SW sales 2017-23 million

Similar results in previous years as well.

The PS4 Pro isn’t the main model though. The PS4 did not receive any discount, and certainly not a $100 discount, in its first year on the market in AU.

And I’m not talking about those Switch discounts in October, September, June (yes within 4 months), I’m talking about the $100 discount last week.

Interpret it as you will but truth is that the Switch is getting discounts in a way that the PS4 didn’t in its first year.

Main or not is irrelevant.  You can't discount that discount.

And do you have a link to $100 off for Switch in Australia?

It’s irrelevant? How so? The fact remains that the PS4 never got discounted in its first year or first 4 months.

Not sure why you’re asking for a link - don’t believe me?
