UK is a tiny market compared to Japan. And Nintendo has historically always been weak in the UK while Playstation used to be a very strong brand in Japan (its freaking home country no less). If you can't tell the difference then I don't know what to tell you. |

I'm adding up console sales for Japan (213k) for the same week and its no where near 300k+. Also doing some digging (which it seems you failed to do)
Japan gaming sales (total hardware and software) from Nintendo superfan Dr. Serkan Toto (https://www.serkantoto.com/2017/01/06/size-of-japans-console-gaming-market/)
2016: 2.59 Billion (hardware $1billion, software $1.59Billion)
2015 2.77 Billion
UK totals for last year (console hardware (no PC) +software (not including digital), no PC, no Mobile, no used game sales = $2.109 billion (https://ukie.org.uk/press-release/2017/03/uk-games-market-worth-record-%C2%A3433bn-2016), they seem pretty comparable to me.
