As Brawl4life mentioned, Mario Kart seems pretty good to me. I was really concerned about the graphics (and I didn't enjoy MK DD) but this just seems so different and fresh with the tons of characters, faster bikes, stat tracking, and online options. I pre-ordered it today :)
To me, Nintendo's big 3 in 08 are what's important. The "new" big three is SSBB, MK, and WiiFit.

Of those three, I think its easily Galaxy. It will sell more consoles, and more units in the long term.
I'm sure Brawl is a great game (its not out here yet :P), but its not my type of game.
I think its much more interesting to add Mario Kart to this list, and compare with Brawl/Galaxy.

I always thought the big 3 were:
SMG
SSB: Brawl
Mario Kart Wii
I don't really see why MP3 would be considered in that group because the Prime series (particularly echoes) wasn't exactly a huge hit in terms of sales, where as the above mentioned 3 games are the pinnacle of gaming success (great review scores and large amounts of sales).
Anyway, I would say SMG, even though I was disappointed by the game (too much hype), it still came off as one of the best games of last year (and arguably all time)
Super Mario Galaxy seems the best so far (since ssbb isn't out here yet) and mario kart wii seems a better fit in this picture than MP3 (though i really like samus :D)

That's the origin of the term. Of course MKWii would make more sense, but it was never part of the big 3.

Mario Kart isn't really known for great review scores. If you sub Zelda for that, I agree. Either way, they are all good games!
