Forums - Microsoft - X1X sells 80k+ first week in U.K

The Xbox One X is currently ranked in Amazon.co.uk Top 100 at No. 29 (In Stock).

Id say the sales were immensely Front Loaded, but this is nothing new with Xbox products.

Even the Elite Controller at 150$ had great numbers at launch, but then died quickly.

The elite controller has continued to sell well.

Its definitely sold over 20k in Australia as that's how big EB Games Batches were.

How do you know that? Not questioning you just curious.

20k alone would be pretty big here - letalone the sales from JB, Harvey Norman etc.

These are great numbers.

However, we have to remember that the Pro wasn't heavily promoted, had a low key announcement, was a smaller jump in technology and wasn't stocked as well as the XB1X. From a consumers perspective it's harder to persuade those people without a 4K TV to buy a console that promised 1080p when the console they already had was doing 1080p. On the other hand, it's easier to persuade people without a 4K TV to buy a console that promised 1080p when the console they already had did 900p.

The jump from least powerful to most powerful is a much easier sell.

The Pro did not have a supply issues in the US. maybe everywhere else but not here.

This thread is about the UK.

The PS5 Exists.

Because globally is in the USA.

Dont know where you have been, but nintendo just released the most powerfull handheld ever, and its selling like crazzy.

Don't know where you have been but that handheld is ALSO according to Nintendo a home system and as such it's definitely weak.

I'll also add that we are talking about the Xbox one X (a home system) and I added in my comment the PS4 and a PS5 (yet more home systems) so I'm not sure why you did not see that I was obviously talking about the Switch's home system capabilities.

LOL...what?

The One X and Switch sold about the same amount in their respective first weeks (source: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-03-06-strong-start-for-nintendo-switch-in-the-uk). Also, what are you talking about with the pretty much every other week in the whole of EU? The original (weaker than PS4) Xbox One sold more than this in its first week. Not to mention first week sales are not necessarily a great indicator of long-term sales. The PS4 Pro, which was supply constrained, sold a respectable 50,000 units in its first week in the UK but the weaker and cheaper PS4 outsold it in subsequent weeks and continues to outsell it. The One S will most likely overtake the One X as well because of the price and the fact that it will most likely be good enough for most and it plays the same games.

Sony has a good line up for 2018 and PS4 sales are strong across the globe (including in regions where the One X will likely not make a dent, like Japan). They hardly need to change their strategy nor do they need to rush out a PS5 (which will, in all likelihood, be more powerful than the One X). Nintendo doesn't even have a stationary system that competes with the One X, they have a powerful portable that addresses a different need entirely (namely for portable gamers, and those that want a portable companion to their stationary console or PC). In addition, if people cared about getting their hands on the most powerful systems, then pretty much everyone would be a high-spec PC gamer.

The One X has had a great debut week, and it has a lot of potential (the hype surrounding it makes me believe it will, at the very least, do better than what MS expected), but lets see how it does over the next couple of weeks and months before making any grand standing statements. If One X overtakes the PS4 and Switch in weekly sales over the next few months and sells in massive amounts, then you may have a point that the market cares about power over other things. However, if, at the very least, the One X does well and boosts Xbox sales but PS4 and Switch continue to do well, then that would be an indicator that a major orientation around power (which would presumably have Sony rush out a more powerful PS5 and Nintendo to abandon the Switch a rush out a powerful stationary system or just become a third-party developer exclusively for powerful systems) would not really be necessary.

What I'm talking about?

Look at the figures in the home page of VGChartz. The Xbox sold in that last week about 27K units in Europe. And the X just sold 80K in the UK alone. I don't know about math where you live my friend but where I come from 27K is a much smaller figure than 80K. And pretty much every week you get a European figure for the Xbox that is smaller than 80K, way smaller. You usually get 80K, a bit more or a bit less for Xbox's worldwide figures weekly. And that's all I'm saying, I did not mean anything else with my comment.

20k alone would be pretty big here - letalone the sales from JB, Harvey Norman The manager at EBGames told me they sold out of the first two batches for the X. Something like 20k he told me all gone.

The manager at EB Games told me they sold out of the 1st two batches. 20k Aus wide. Thats really just his word though.

Well for me PS4 pro numbers are far more impressive than Xbox one x, considering the time it was announced and launched. I mean PRO announcement was outside of E3 no hype conference, just a press meet. Also competing against newly announced PS4 slim, PSVR, xbox one S and before the launch Nintendo Switch was unveiled.

the other point is people were perfectly satisfied with their regular PS4 unlike xbox one which had inferior resolution, so xbox crowd desperately needed something better and sony had like 2 months marketing and that too they were afraid not to piss off existing PS4 buyers who had just bought a regular PS4, And MS went all out with X for like 18 months in terms of building the hype.

So I feel the numbers for xbox one X should have been better or that PRO numbers are better. Remember Even Kinect at $150 sold well initially
