Its especially a weird take when games like COD & FIFA continue to sells systems with their 7th entries on PS4/XBO.

I don't think FIFA or COD are primarily selling PS4/XB systems at this stage. If you're a FIFA or COD fan, you have a PS4/XB1 already, FIFA and COD are selling to FIFA/COD fans that already have a PS4 largely. FIFA might though in Europe as its more of a casual appeal game to some.

PS4/XB1 continue to get new IP yearly though like Cyberpunk is going to be a big one, FF7 is basically a new IP in the fact that FF7 has notalgia appeal specific to that one title that other FF games don't have (there are lots of fans of FF7 specifically that don't care for FFXV for example), Sekiro is a new IP, Days Gone, Last of Us 2 etc. etc.

But it's not like when FIFA 2020 releases there's some huge boom in PS4 sales anymore, it's an expected title by now.

They are, I recall Mat from NPD talking about how games like GTAV and the annual releases are still some of the biggest system sellers for PS4/XBO.

Edit: and a game doesnt need to cause a huge boost to be considered a system seller, games that maintain momentum and soften decline are also system sellers since sales would be lower without them. That's what games like FIFA/COD do.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Well the other difference with COD/FIFA is they're accepted as an annualized franchise so you never have to buy an "old game" whenever you purchase your PS4/XB1, there's a new version of that game available. GTA is just a freak of nature, I'm not sure if any conventional rules apply to that game, that's beyond evergreen, that's like some other category, there's never been a single title game like that in the history of the business (released one generation prior but becomes the best selling game of the next generation too).

Mario Kart 9 will be a Switch 2 launch title, book it, there's no reason for them to use that bullet for the current Switch as MK8 Deluxe is bringing in all the Mario Kart fans for this platform anyway.

Mario Kart Tour was downloaded 120m+ times in it's first month so that bodes well for Switch.

Ring Fit Adventure will sell 10m+ so it looks like all those cazualz who abandoned Nintendo to play i-Phit and the Google Balance Board on their smartphones are coming home.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

... wow

You realise that in it's launch month it came 10th in NPD right... In the UK it debuted 3rd in it's first week, behind Witcher 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Sales in Japan currently sit at 220k.

It'll be lucky to hit 5m.

That's not really the same as being a system seller.  It's more that they prevent the competition from getting a sale.  People will keep turning on their PS4 every year for FIFA instead of going over to Switch or PC.  The first FIFA that a person buys sells the system, but most people are not going to buy an extra PS4 every time FIFA is released.  But they won't feel they need another platform either.  A "system seller" is a game that wins new customers.  That would be the person's first FIFA game on the system.

It is kind of like the difference between the BotW game and BotW DLC.  The original game sells the system, but the DLC keeps the customer coming back so they won't need to go to another platform.  The DLC isn't a "system seller".

- No it didn't. It came 3rd after FIFA and MK and then went up 5% in sales the following week while Witcher 3's sales dropped 68%.

Sales in Japan currently sit at 220k.

- Famitsu says it's at 290k and Nintendo have issued an apology to Japanese customers for it being out of stock.

It'll be lucky to hit 5m.

- I'll take that bet.

You're right, apparently the original release UK chart had it at 5th, behind witcher 3 and MK8:D, but they updated it later to be 3rd. Regardless, it sold less than Mario Kart in it's first week. Yet you expect 10m? It came 10th in NPD... 10m? America would be it's biggest market.

The shipments for it's 2nd and 3rd quarters are going to be the definitive nail in that coffin. Then I shall laugh.

Japan sales are 260k, Wii Fit had sold over 1m by this point. It's not coming close to 10m.

I don't care about Ring Fit sales so i won't do any bet, but trusth me forget about what your doing.

I hope you at least follow Japanese threads so you know the only reason this game is not selling massive numbers is because the stock issue.

Idk if it's gonna sell 10 million (i think i will or at least will be close), but saying it will be lucky to hit 5 million is crazy. Legs are crazy strong.

Can games even have legs yet in their second month?

So apparently Switch is significantly up YoY for Black Friday (not cause it's a different week than last year) and he added that it is NOT because of the Lite but the Switch itself just being a hot item... since it's up significantly with the same boring promotion as last year.

So this is actually even better news, as he points out, people are not really there just for the low price cause they dont buy the lite but really want the whole experience so a Switch Pro might perform better.

Imagine once it gets a price cut, animal crossing and everything...
Still think lite will be big during holiday but seems like the classic console will still perform better after all.
