#41 Animal Crossing New Leaf

Who knew that collecting fossils, paying off your house, fishing, and buying clothes could be so fun? I don't fully understand why I love Animal Crossing so much, or what makes it so addictive, but my 200+ hours on the 3DS doesn't lie. If AC Switch comes out next year this will be replaced on the list quickly.

For some reason, mythical monsters now die to cute little fairies. It's nice tho.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Hint for my game #42: In this game series you pull your helpers out of the ground. I chose for the list the third (currently newest, but some hope for another game) game in the series.

Pikmin 3

As guessed by John19 my next game is Pikmin 3.

This game announcement (along with some others) convinced me to buy the WiiU early on. Pikmin 3 was announced for the 'launch window'. Eight months after the launch of the device finally came this game. That launch window...

Anyways, the wait was worth it, as the game was good. I like all Pikmin games, this one did all right with the mechanics, had some additional usages for the gamepad that were actually good and some pretty good multiplayer-modes, so it beats out the first two, although close.

The three heroes you command are coming from another planet than in the first two entries. On Koppai they have eaten up all the fruits (and they despise vegetables, it must be fruits), so these three are an expedition to search for new fruits. As in the earlier games the heroes are small, the fruits provide a lot to eat.

The story developed by cutscenes and the logbook written by the astronauts is funny and entertaining, but nothing deep (not that I expect that from Pikmin).

The most important point is, that the core mechanics of the game work as well as before and the puzzles and boss battles are interesting and entertaining.

Hint 2: To the Moon!

Hint 3: The main protagonists in this game are brutal, funny, stupid, crazy. They cause chaos wherever they go, and that includes a lot of games besides this one, including other long running game series, in which they showed up. And yes, no single protagonist, a horde of them.

Hint for game #39: Cast spells at your servants to make them fall down.

You're on the right track, but it's not that game. Collect trash? To the moon?

Pokémon X & Y?

Also, since you remember my stuff, don't you know my #42? I'm about to spam this thread with boring, long posts, but I wanted someone to guess it before doing that.

For #40, no it isn't Psychonauts. It's a rhythm game.

Yup. And I do not know

Luigi's Mansion 2

  • US name: Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
  • Nintendo 3DS
  • 2013
  • Adventure
  • Next Level Games

One of the newer games in my list, and one of the best games that the 8th Generation of video-games produced so far. The game takes the concept of the original GameCube game and enhances it in almost every way, which puts 'Luigi's Mansion 2' above it on the whole. A rarity, because for me it's usually the original game that wins.

Luigi must find the pieces of the mystical "Dark Moon" to get rid of the shadow that's hanging in the valley. This shadow is a playground for ghosts and multiple houses and other buildings are now infested with them. The game is objective based, but each stage has you explore further into each house, until finally the entire building is explorable. Each 'Mansion' has it's own theme, and it's great incentive to dive further and further into each of them.

The 3D effect of the 3DS system is amazing here, and the best use of the feature one could find. Ironically, it never 'ghosts', and the room-after-room nature of the game fits perfectly with it when the system makes it seem like you're looking into a diorama in every one of those rooms in the game. The game has plenty of hidden secrets and collectibles to accompany the fleshed out main story. I never even needed to try the multiplayer to feel I got my money's worth multiple times over.
