As guessed correctly by John19 my game for today is the original Splatoon for WiiU.

Whether you're a squid or a kid, this game might draw you in with it's competitiveness. A shooter with paint, and target is not kills but coloring the stage. Good teamplay is actually doing something, even a good player cannot win alone. You customize the clothing of your Squid with multiple stylish offerings. A single player mode is included. Although some criticized the game for various reasons (incomplete on release with later downloadable items, not a free choice of stages and so on) the game obviously hit a nerve and developed into a sales magnet, despite being on the WiiU.

#44 Viewtiful Joe 2 / GCN

#43 Sin & Punishment: Star Successor / Wii

Not much to say, both intense action games, one a beat em up platformer, the other an on rail shooter, with great challenge, presentation and music, some on drugs story for Sin and Punishment and some great cheesy comic style story and characters for Viewtiful Joe.

Still waiting on a third game for both.

Anyways, I guess I'll regroup all the hints again and try to make it easier. We're already past day 43 after all, so this is already overdue.

Hint #2 - It's a platformer.
Hint #3 - This level was remade in a recent entry in this franchise.
Hint #4 - When I say it's a platformer, I mean it in the purest sense. A traditional, level-based, 2D, linear platformer. With quite the iconic playable character, too.

Also, for #42: (This spin-off in a racing franchise is infamous for booting up to the sound of a very unfitting Avril Lavigne song.)
Hint #2 - I think the reason the song was unfitting is because this series is known for encouraging aggressive driving.

I meant Metroid 2, but oh well
