Forums - Sales - October 2017 NPD Thread! Switch #1

I'm surprised to see how well Shadow of Mordor did. Guess the lootbox controversy and fake charity controversy didn't hurt it much at all.

The stand-out losers of the month to me are Wolfenstein 2 and Evil Within 2, neither made the top 10 on their debut month. That's not so bad for Wolfenstein 2 since it only had a few days of sales (though AC released the same day and managed #2) but it is pretty bad for Evil Within 2 which had 2 weeks of sales on the month. They don't include digital, but even with digital included I doubt either would have made it higher than #7.

Yeah, The Evil Within 2 looks to have been a commercial disappointment. I wonder if Bethesda is satisfied with sales for either of the 2 games.

While I'm sure that GT Sport had decent sales, and will definitely do well in EU, it's pretty obvious this is not the direction most fans wanted it to go in. Being the first GT on PS4, this should have debuted in the Top 10, even the Top 3.

We'll have to see if Sony decides to put out a normal GT7.

A big problem with many of these flops is well, they all released at the same time again. With that, one or 2 games always wins big while the others relatively flop. It is no surprise to me that many companies delay their games to until February nowadays as the 3rd best selling month of the year. October just doesn't seem that strong anymore.

Not sure about all the game release date but GTS had 2 weeks. Pretty disappointing sales.

The Switch is doing incredibly well at the moment and although I'm not one that normally judges future success on the holiday season, I can't see why it wouldn't go on to be the best selling console in the US for the remainder of the generation. I wouldn't even discount the possibility of it becoming the best selling console WW either. Next year is going to be an interesting year, especially when you look at the PS4 games line up for 2018.

I wouldn't be too concerned about Wolfeinstein 2. It's sales were probably good for what they were. The bigger problem is, it's sales will probably be massively frontloaded.

I honestly expected Game of the Year material from Wolfenstein 2. The original game had a lot that could be built on. I love the idea of mixing stealth with action and I think it's ideas are more interesting than Doom's. The problem is neither The New Order or now 2 seem to come anywhere close in terms of quality.

I wanted to pick up Wolfenstein 2 but things just spiraled out of control. First I heard reports that the game was too hard. I shrugged it off. Then I heard the Kinda Funny Games cast say it was too difficult on normal. I shrugged that off too, they're extremely casual considering how much they play games. Than Dishonored Wolf...a big fan of Wolf 1, said that 2 was a terrible game, that it terribly balanced the combat and stealth, and that 3 out of 6 hours were cutscenes. Now i'm fucking worried. Then SuperBunnyHop makes a video about how the story is amazing ... and ... nothing else. The game is too hard on consoles, with a huge disparity between the PC and controller(supposedly because of mouse controls?), the game is too short, the game has better combat but you can never do it because it's too hard, and the game gets worse near the end. Even worse, Wolfenstein PC ports have proved rather inconsistent, my port of the first game was quite terrible. I'm a PC gamer and I love difficult games, but this is too much for me going by what others have said.

So no matter what, you're playing the game in a non-desirable scenario. Amazing.

ps4 still the best selling console of the year.

Its basically a tie. Nov+Dec will be the warrrrr... Who will win??? Well at least we know Nintendo Hardware will sell the most of of the 3 by years end :p

Didn't you say that Switch will overtake the PS4 in October?

Like i said before, ps4’s time at the top is over. Nintendomination is in full effect. Ps4 had a good run but the switch has beat it most of this year. GtS even seems to have flopped and had no effect on hardware sales.

PS4 will continue selling well but it feels as if it’s days at the top are behind it. I’m genuinely shocked at the switch’s performance. I didn’t think anything could dethrone ps4.

You could be right, who knows. We'll have to wait to see how next year pans out but right now the PS4 is still beating the other consoles, unless you're talking exclusively about the US? Maybe you are?

Is this not an NPD thread?
