Forums - Gaming - Doom Switch Comparision with other Platforms

Okay, just played through the first mission.

Resolution is almost certainly dynamic; and yes, when it drops it can be rather blurry by current gen standards, though on the plus side jaggies are pretty much non-existent thanks to the use of the temporal supersampling AA and heavy post-processing.

Framerate is solid so far.

As someone who hasn't played the game before, it's a blast; movement feels good, and the combat mechanics are very satisfying. I can see how it would benefit significantly from a 60fps clip, but I'm still finding it very playable and fun at 30.

So yeah, the technical sacrifices required to bring it to portable hardware are clear, but they don't ruin the experience.

surprised how big the differnce is between the PS4 & XB1..... differnce from XB1 to Switch almost seems smaller.

Things doesn't scale linearly and sometimes we get quite the surprise...

But the X1 holding 60 fps against PS4 on 30% HW difference makes the IQ seem bigger than Switch at 30fps (which makes the gap half already) needs less downgrade against X1 that isn't like 4x over Switch....

If X1 and PS4 ran the game at 30 fps then a lot more downgrades would be needed for Switch.

Just for record, both PS4 and XB1 using dynamic resolutions, just in case of PS4 resolution is most of the time 1080p, while for XB1 "regularly struggles to hit full 1080p, more often coming in around 1472x828 or lower". Talking about frame rate, PS4 has small drops, while on XB1 "during many of the larger battles, frame-rates tumble into the mid-50s with some dips all the way down into the 40s". So it's actually quite difference between PS4 and XB1 version of games.

So game is not 1080p/60fps on XB1, its more something like 820p/50fps.

The Switch version looks better then it has any right to, I thought the gap would be far bigger

The gap is huge. Worse lighting and alpha effects and running at 30fps at a lower resolution. The other versions are way better but if I had a Switch I would get this version for the portability and any of the other versions for the full experience.

That's not a huge gap. This is a huge gap; (Black Ops Wii vs PS3)

At least the assets used on the Switch version of DOOM are the same.

Not sure the point you wanted to make about the difference between PS4 and X1, but that certainly wouldn't be one that would warranty extra points for x1

Point is that between PS4 and XB1 versions of game difrence is actually quite noticeable, and that actualy X1 not holding 60 fps again PS4 frame rate.

You talk like we don't know that X1 version is a little inferior.

Fact you wrote "X1 holding 60 fps against PS4.."  sound like you really don't know, especially if we bring resolution also. And yes, most people think that XB1 version is 1080p/60fps, and thats not true.

Comparing how X1 does against PS4 versus how Switch does against X1, for which I didn't see you taking a problem to people saying Switch is closer to X1 than X1 is to PS4.

And I put that both running at 60fps while Switch runs at 30 fps makes the 30-50% difference in power between X1/PS4 equivalent to a 3x difference from X1 to Switch.

I reply to you for specific reason, don't try to change subject. Again, you wrote "X1 holding 60 fps against PS4.." and thats not true, so you obviously you were not aware about PS4/XB1 differences for Doom.

I wasn't aware and matter of fact the game keeps 60fps more often than not.
