Perfect. I will knock it down to casual to experience the story again. I have no shame in it. I beat the Wii game a few times and aside from my first playthrough I also did the full Colony 6 restoration.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I gave up on XCX once you the mech (felt like I had to relearn combat and didn't feel like it) and barely played XC2. Should I give XC:DE a try still? I really liked the exploration in XCX but they did a terrible job of explaining the game's systems, I'm thinking that starting with the first game of the series might be a better way to get into it.

Signature goes here!

Just a few more days! I’m excited to jump back into this game! Even though I have bought and played every version of this game already.

Takahashi: Unsurprisingly, productions costs and development time are a limitation. There was no way to recreate everything from scratch. Therefore, we first decided what we would create anew and not. In particular, weapons and equipment, enemies and map models, among other assets, were limited to texture updates and there were texture upgrades for shaders, the faces and hands of player and key characters, and new equipment and the Monado. We recreated cutscenes and facial animations for scripted scenes.

Although a line was drawn, staff showed their commitment to the project, and assets such as enemies and map models that had not initially been planned to be upgraded received upgrades here and there. Although these updates aren’t built from scratch, it would be nice if you could tell the difference.

You are bound to find the spots that he said were improved if you look through a microscope. He Did mention key characters were improved. But not all characters. Either take the words of the director himself, or not, I don’t give a shit what you think. Maybe you think you know better than he does about the game he made? Either way, go harass someone else.

Have some dignity, Hynad. You made a claim and it got proven wrong.

In the quoted segment above, in the first paragraph Takahashi gives an overview of what was the original plan for the project. In the second paragraph he says that his team went beyond the original plan.

Your constant appeal to authority ("The director calls the game a remaster, therefore that's what it is." - Note: In a translation of a Famitsu interview) is not going to hold much weight for two reasons:

1. There is no clearly defined line between remasters and remakes in the video game medium.

2. Only a few days ago The Wonderful 101 Remastered was released. The creators of the game call it a remaster, but most people would rather call it a port, because the little work that was being done is very similar to a multiplatform game that ran at 900p on Xbox One and 1080p on the PS4.

You'd call TW101 Remastered a remaster though, so the range of what constitutes a remaster in your book is very, very wide.

Miyamoto said Star Fox Zero is really fun.  Everyone who disliked it is wrong.

Do you know if the expert mode also increases the overall difficulty?  I'd like to be able to adjust my levels, but I don't necessarily want the game to be harder.

Bolded: You got debunked. Shulk's leg and elbow. Got more polygons for his clothes than his original.

Guess you need to try again.

Bold 1

No microscope needed.  Opening your eyes will suffice.

Bold 2

Yet you still attack anyone who calls it a remake.

https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9144268

This is literally your first post in a thread that had nothing to do with Xenoblade, as the game had not been released yet.  Still because Mar uttered the word "remake", you could not help but come on here and stir the pot.  For someone who "doesn't give a shit", you sure do a poor job at showing it.

Bold 3

Sound advice, you should take it.  Harassment only leads to more harassment, and turns the entire conversation sideways.  It is a shame because I know for a fact you are capable of a good conversation, we have had a few on discord.  Why let another person's valid interpretation of a single word bother you so much that you have to stir the pot?

In the end, we can all agree that soon we will be playing a great game that has been enhanced far beyond what a typical remaster would imply.  Lets celebrate the game, rather than attack a single word.

"Either way, go harass someone else."

Nah. Others don't make such baseless claims as you do.

Bolded: You should read the whole sentence and not just cherry pick words and interpret something else into it. He is talking about textures updates and texture upgrades. And even the "unimportant" characters got texture updates just by looking at a comparison video. Can't obviously confirm for all characters. So, they are not the same as the original one even if the amount of polygons of the models suggests it.

You are wrong….. again.

You say don't cherry pick, yet you do so yourself.

He clearly says "Although these updates aren’t built from scratch, it would be nice if you could tell the difference."

And you equal this to mean the models aren't the same as the original? Their textures might not be, but the models are.

Oh of course. I may be wrong about the amount of work that went into some character models. In the end the director still aligns very much with what my stance has been from the moment this remaster was announced.

1: This would make your claim that it is a remake as void. Call it whatever you want. I don't give a shit.

In less than 3 days we can bickering and start enjoying the game. That can't come soon enough ...

Almost two days for us who ordered it digitally, almost three for physical peasants, or more, lol

jk

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

"remaster" "remake"

Why is it sometimes when I buy sparkling water it tastes like seltzer water?

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

It’s kind of a silly argument, remaster vs remake. Not really sure why anybody would care to argue it really. It can really mean anything as anytime you alter something in a game you are technically “remaking” it.

Myself, I tend to think of games that are just getting ported over at higher resolutions or frame rates as remasters, anything that has made actual changes as remakes. That being said, if somebody called something a remaster that I considered a remake, I certainly wouldn’t argue with them. It’s basically saying the same thing. Some people just wanna argue though I guess...
