Honestly, even after reading up on their backstories the characters of X just seemed to boring and totally lacking in charisma. I think a lot of this has to do with the VA which felt very phoned in.

Not everyone has time to put 100 hours into a game. By doing what they did, one can just streamline the story and finish the game in say 40 hours instead of being forced to expand upon characters they may or may not care about dragging the campaign out to 100 hours. (Could finish game way shorter than 40 if they didn't have the main story progression locked behind area completion %. That is what sucked about the game.) But there are like 30 side characters. You can go about learning about them all if you want or you can just stick to like 4 cover characters, like every other RPG out there typically does. And speaking of typical RPG's. Didn't you always find it dumb when some character you had sitting on your bench and you never used all of a sudden pops up in a cutscene. Annoyed me that apparently all 8 of these people are with me but I can only use 4 at a time. RPG makers want to give us choice in characters to use and playstyles, yet due to this makes it seem stupid that only 4 of the 8 are fighting even though they are all apparently there. I prefer X's method. You can use whoever of the 30 during most the game, those that are not used are back at base doing their own daily schedules. If a cutscene uses said character, it is a requirement to have said character in your party. |
In term of character development, no one in X can come close to Rex in Xenoblade 2. Comparing Rex at the beginning to Rex in the final part of the game is like comparing two different people.
Holy guacamole, I cannot overstate how massively having an easy mode improves the experience of playing Xenoblade 2.
My biggest problem with the base game (except for maybe the horrible field skill roadblocks) was the maddening and cheap difficulty spikes. With easy mode, I'm 6 hours in without encountering a single one, and I'm enjoying the game vastly more as a result.
Okay I'm closing in on Community Level 4, so for those who've finished Torna, a few questions:
(1) Once I reach level 4 will I have a chance to save, rest at the inn, and take a break before the finale? I want to finish the side quests tonight, then sit down and do the final boss in one sitting tomorrow night.
(2) What level is the final boss(es)? I am at 49 but I'm not very good at the game so I usually need to be substantially overlevelled to be able to win comfortably, and I'd rather it not be a close/stressful affair.

1) Yes, you will. You'll have some cutscenes and final dungeon left before getting to Malos. Also, the game will tell you explicitly that you won't be able to go back once you've decided to go against him (Same like in the Main Game) 2) Final Boss level is 50. Getting to lvl 55-60 should be the safe option. P.S : Prepare your tissues for the ending |
Thanks man, will do. So is the point of no return before or after this final dungeon? I'm considering doing the dungeon, then saving and doing the final boss and ending in a separate sitting.

After. The point of no return is literally ten yards away from him :P
As i kinda expected the digital version's savefile doesn't work with the physical version. Guess i am playing it again
Finally beat Torna. It had lots of good points, from the music to the battle system (ease of putting up elemental orbs aside), but in terms of impacting the base game's story I have to admit it makes the Aegis War seem small, and it confirms my belief that Jin is just a weak and whiny little bitch. No idea why Mythra and Azurda talked his mopey ass up...and Takahashi needs to either learn how to write a proper sympathetic villain, or (better yet) just give up that trope already.
I also don't get why Rex is supposed to resemble Addam. Also, what was the third titan that went down? I only counted two.
I liked Malos even more though!
Woo, finished the DLC about an hour ago. I knew what was coming and I still cried. What a wild ride, I'm sad it's over. Guess I still have a lot of side quests to do. The game isn't over until I get Mythra to S-rank!
In terms of pros and cons, I'd say:
+Really solid cast of characters (camp scenes are pretty fun as a result)
+Gameplay feels more refined
+Being able to control Mythra...well Blades in general
+More exposition on Amalthus, Malos, and Jin and Lora's relationship
+Best final boss sequence I've played since Metal Gear Rising
+Mythra in general
-Anti-climax was unnecessary, as was the whole plot with Gort
-Could have removed Minoth from the game and I wouldn't have even noticed
-Mandatory side-quests

I never really got that impression about Jin in the DLC, he seemed like a quiet bishounen for most of it. His post-Lora arc I feel could have elaborated a little more, but that was more of a complaint for the main game, and not one I cared much about anyway. I guess I've seen the fallen hero type character enough in JRPGs I just roll with it now.
I agree about the scope of the Aegis War, though the final fight was so insane I forgave it. What I found more surprising was how little time Mythra and Addam actually spent together, she only bonded with him a year before the start of the prequel. Also that Addam was apparently married to an unnamed woman the whole time.
I was expecting Addam to be more Rex-like at first, but I think the comparison was pretty general. Both are reckless optimists, put others before themselves, and have an air of levity about them that Mythra/Pyra are drawn to. Pretty broad given those are basic MC tropes...but I suppose in-universe its probably less common.
No idea about the Titans...I would just assume there are unnamed Titans out there we don't know anything about, just like the Coeaian one or whatever they mentioned in this game.

The community thing I get why some are upset because it is way to blatant in being used to pad time. Especially the ending portion but damn I do love how the game's battle system was improved .
