Forums - Nintendo - Reggie on the lack of certain features for Switch, about 2018 plans after the holidays, more

If Playstation Now is any preview of what streaming services will be like, I am deeply concerned about the "all streaming" future these companies so desperately crave.  I really hope Switches VC isn't a Netflix service.

hell, with just the things 1month back and to the end of the year you have games to last you until summer with nothing else releasing.. the problem now is too many games and they are all getting released in 2-3months.. October + November is/was crazy for switch

VC Loot boxes. You pay 6.99 for an NES box with 3 random games, 1 of which is guaranteed to be published by nintendo. (SNES=8.99 n64=10.99 Gamecube=18.99)

heh, you joke about it. But what if it actually happened... :O

For me... basically

Good bye savings, I wont miss you.

Sounds like once Paid Online is unleashed. So to will VC be released...going by his...

"In terms of Virtual Console, we’ve said that with the launch of Nintendo Online and that service, that there will be executions on legacy content as part of that, and that’s something that’s going to launch next year. And so we’ll detail that at the appropriate time.

I doubt that the VC will only be available with Paid Online but maybe they will tie each other into one another somehow. Like release VC but a section of VC will be "Paid Online" restricted. Or how PS+ does it where the PS Store has a tab that shows all the deals with just the PS+ service.

I personally think the best way is to follow the PS+ path. Have a large amount of VC games available on launch, release 2 or 3 games a month for free to download as long as you are a sub with the Paid Online service, with some other select VC games being discounted. Out of all the PS+ games I've downloaded from the service for free, I played only a couple, but its nice to have that service.

Agree.

Really hope they have some great stuff I can enjoy next year. Kirby and Yoshi just doesn't do it for me.

I'm not convinced that VC is being up and replaced yet, considering the clarification earlier in the year that the Online Service's complimentary NES/SNES games "is different from" the Virtual Console. I don't think they'd shift plans from June to now - I think they're avoiding the subject so that the first year of the system can be focused around NEW rather than old. Let the QoL additions come next year, leave the games themselves to sell the system for now.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I'm kinda worried about the Virtual Console. It seems like they may replace it by that online service, but it doubt it will really be a satisfactory replacement.

Something tells me that's how certain companies would handle it. Except the first time you get a specific game it's just a demo, which you then have to upgrade in order to get the complete game.

I'm just starting to feel a little impatient for something akin to the Miiverse on the Switch. I understand wanting to break away from the Wii/Mii thing entirely (a simple rebranding would have sufficed), but it pisses me off that they'd kill the one feature I rarely heard people complain about from their Wii/Wii U days without a successor in place, as it has about the most barebones online community that I've seen from a console since perhaps the 6th gen of consoles.

Every game had the feel of experiencing it alongside a larger community, but now only a select few (such as Splatoon 2) offer anything like that.

Both of them will most likely hit Q1. Kirby in Jan and Yoshi in Feb or March. They probably have another smallish title to fill in the gap too. And not to mention, we have Attack on Titan 2, Wolfenstein 2 and Atelier. Wolfenstein will probably be March, as will Atelier. Attack on Titan will probably be Feb. Either way, I'm not worried about any droughts in games. Nintendo may also do a port of a Wii U game like Super Mario Maker to fill in a gap, similar to what they did with Mario Kart filling the gap in April and Pokken in September.

The latest trailer for Kirby said Spring though, so I doubt January would happen. Realistically it will probably be late March-April, and Yoshi will likely be May-June. I don't see them having much for Q1, unless they have something super far along in development that they're just not gonna announce until right before release, which would be odd. Or possibly Yoshi is almost ready and they've just held off showing much until after 2017, and maybe that will be ready in February or something. The good news is though that the Switch will have a pretty incredible library already from these first 9 months, so a 3 month drought wouldn't be the end of the world. Just so long as it stays only 3 months and not much longer. Yoshi and Kirby for Q2, Fire Emblem and Pikmin for Q3, Animal Crossing and Prime 4 for Q4 would be a solid 2018 lineup. Throw in Mario Maker Deluxe for either Q3 or Q4 and maybe something like Bayonetta 3. Still don't believe Pokemon will hit until 2019, in spite of what's been said.
