Forums - Sales - Is PS3 actually catching up in Americas gaming market?

what I think is that PS3 is selling to gamers because of the bluray.

Around the Network

it is and gta iv, gt5p, and mgs4 should help a lot.

hmmm....i bet it will but it wont before a new system is released

i could see Microsoft doing that just to spite Sony

I can't wait for Microsoft to do that and suicide out of the gaming market !

The Blu-Ray argument is stupid IMO. Using a PS3 for blu-ray doesnt bar you from buying videogames.

You could say the same thing about people buying a second Xbox360, for either more reliability, to replace older ones, or for the new HDMI version.

I'd say the percentage difference between the two are pretty close.

And as someone else stated, if you take the big games like Assassins Creed and Uncharted vs Mass Effect, and include only areas outside of Japan, the attach rate is higher on the PS3. That fact is irrevelant of course other than to disprove the PS3 sold solely as a BR player argument.

You're totally missing the point.  We all agree that there are some people buying it for Blu-Ray and for Blu-Ray only (or almost Blu-Ray only) versus for gaming.  The question is how many are there?

And the discussion is about North America.  We all know PS3 is going to kill 360 in Japan and Europe (though I'd argue the Japan numbers have been hugely dissappointng for Sony).

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Whoever gets the GTA4 cat in the bag, wins. The game is a trend settler.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

I don't think BR will be a topping point in the games-system battle.

Sony has def started catching up and has a couple really big, popular exclusives this year.

I think the 360 will show way stronger numbers when it's FINALLY $300 premium though. No reason for MS to leave their middle model only $50 less than the cheapest Playstation 3. They'll going to start to hammer the price-point thing home to get more gamers on board w/ next-gen gaming.

cant you see them doing tha, "sir it looks like the PS3 is only 4% behind us in the states......what release a new system so that they cant claim victory over us b/c we ended the 360....pure spite

OP no playstations are being sold for games.

thats it really.

If you go by the numbers for this week, the PS3 will overtake the X360 in America...in just under 38 years.

it's like somebody trying to break down the wall of china with a hand chisel. it can get rid of some of the wall, but it won't break it down. the ps3 won't pass the 360 in america in my opinion. it might close the gap, but it might be so minimal that it won't make a difference. others and japan is where sony have the advantage...over mirosoft.
