Speaking of Belgium, I think that country is artificial and a historical anomaly purely due to the outcome of the World War 1. I think Belgium should have a referendum to be split in half between France and Holland.

What? You got that wrong pal. My country existed long before World War 1, it was created at the time of Napoleon and put together by the English and the French.

Do Flandes wants to be Netherlands or Wallonia wants to be French? Are Netherlands and France ok with that? Who is gonna get Brussels?

Brussels is overwhelmingly french speaking so if it has to go with one side it should be the french speaking side...

But I don't see that happening, in my opinion Brussels is the perfect candidate to become like Washington DC, a city where the EU government has its headquarters and a city that is not part of any country of the EU just like Washington DC is not part of any of the States of the US. And the official languages should be the two official languages used by the EU government: French and English.

lol okay maybe it wasn't entirely formed during the WW1, but in early 19th century, but it was still an artificial creation if you understand what I mean. The southern part of Belgium should have been annexed by the French and the northern part by the Dutch.

This. Belgium is anyway one of the least wrong things made after Napoleon's defeat, what they did elsewhere, like in Italy, caused over one hundred years of wars after. Artificial and badly put together states created after WWI are not Belgium, but, most notably, ex-Yugoslavia and Iraq. Artificial borders made only to balance French and British powers plagued the vast majority of former Ottoman Empire and former German colonies too. The bloodiest consequences happened first in Yugoslavia, since WWII, and later in Iraq, Middle East in general and Congo too.

Edit: PS What happened in Armenia and Kurdistan, though, wasn't caused by the splitting of former Ottoman Empire, but by not enforcing two of the very few just decisions made doing it, and letting instead Turkey take back what should have become free and independent.

There are quite some people who want independence for Flanders (especially 10 years ago there were a lot of them), but almost no one wants to reunite with Holland. Spain has seperated the country 400 years ago, and the two regions started to grow apart.
And in Wallonia, I think the vast majority doesn't want to seperate.

Also, splitting the country would be extremly hard. Brussels is a big issue: 85% speaks French, but it's surrounded by Flemish towns.

Apparently less than 10% of the people want it in Flanders that's also why we saw no referendum because it would be political suicide for the party who asks it. This ofcourse can change when the communists win in the South.

Yeah except it is a country and if you don't mind, it is up to us Belgians to decide whether Belgium is a country or not.

And it most definitely is a country, regardless of how it formed as that is now irrelevant.

Belgium separated from the Dutch because of their Catholic beliefs right? But that shouldn't matter now should it? I mean, Brabant and Limburg regions are basically the same people lingual and cultural. It's just odd.

Being seperated for 400 years changed the culture and language. They evolved towards their countries and away from eachother.
