Forums - Nintendo - Why Metroid Prime 4?

To be fair I do agree that subtitles are usually cooler than merely numbers. I too prefer a good subtitle. However the idea that numbers too high are "silly" is strange to me, if they do numbers I don't care if at one point they reach 17 or whatever.

Come to think of it, how do you feel about a name like 'SimCity 3000'?

It has to do with the idea of making cities in the year 3000 right? That is like a subtitle versus it being say the 3000th game.

But look at say DC vs Marvel. I'm so glad DC didn't start like Marvel did by titling movies Iron Man 2, Iron Man 2, and very glad Marvel quit doing that. Much better names just Thor: Ragnorak, versus Thor 3: Ragnorak. Everyone wants a Man of Steel 2. They better not damn name it that. Also hope they don't even have ikt be Man of Steel: Braniac or some subtitle. Marvel still annoys me with that part. I like the Batman trilogy for example. Batman Origins, The Dark Knight. Dark Knight Rises. All unique titles. No Batman: Origins. Batman: the Dark Knight. Batman: Dark Knight Rises

Well, no, you're just making regular present day cities.

I actually don't know why they did it but they just named the second and third games '2000' and '3000' respectively, while they settled with simply '4' for the next, and last, game.

No one wants to sayit, but I know we're all thinking it.

Fixation on numbers.
Fixation on trivialities.
Rigidity.

Please stop calling me mentally ill. Are all Nintendo fans so mean? I just had one a couple days ago calling me an ''autististic cunt''.

You are that guy with the Goku avatar, i bet it lol

34 years playing games.

They also made Mario Kart 8 and if we are going to count dumb titles they could have choosen Metroid for Switch, like they did with Smash for Wii U. Besides a subtitle like the Uncharted games get isn't ruled out. Also a mini rant, firstly gamers are complaining about the lack of a new metroid game and now that Nintendo is making a real metroid game you guys don't like the name. Jesus you guys are impossible to please.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

it's not the final title

But I think they should not have called it Metroid Prime, it should be Metroid "something", I mean the Metroid Prime series should be kept close and they should continue with something new, even if they keep the FPA model of Prime.

Uf, Metroid Prime means that's main 3D Metroid game, thats massage they sending buy calling this game Metroid Prime 4.

The Metroid Prime series is a distinct trilogy in the Metroid series, for two reasons, 1- the Phazon, 2- it's a First Person Adventure.

And no that crappy spin off Metroid Prime Hunters doesn't count.

If Metroid Switch is a new departure for the series, then don't call it Metroid Prime, and if it's a direct sequel to Metroid Prime Corruption, then it's just a bad idea, because without Retro, there is no Metroid Prime, even Retro Studios could not make a Metroid Prime 4, since most of the staff from the Metroid Prime days are now working elsewhere.

Calling Metroid Prime 4 is just a bad idea, a marketing idea, maybe it will be called something else when they finally show it, but still...

No its not bad idea, actually opposite, its great idea, thats why people were so exaited when MP4 was announced (main 3D Metroid Prime game finaly!!!), If game was called something else people would think its some spin off and not main Metroid Prime game and that would actuly be bad idea. So it's about message, Metroid Prime 4 is main Metroid Prime game, very simple. We dont know if game is direct sequel to Metroid Prime Corruption and that really doesn't matter (it doesnt need to be direct sequel).

Of Course that you can't say that without Retro there is no Metroid Prime, for instance Kensuke Tanabe is same game producer for MP4 same like for past Metroid Prime games.

This thread amuses me, nicely done Pepper00ni.

I think I might stop with posting if it makes me look autistic.

Hey, I'm autistic, and I'm pretty cool. ;) Not saying you are, I don't know you, but it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

The other MP games had a number followed by a sub-title.

Why would you expect something different?

I could see an argument that it would be potentially better to just ignore the 'prime' moniker and go with something new. But in this case, 'prime' games are very favorably looked upon, so the game gets that hype automatically.
