Because that is the name of the animal. There is more than one species of panther. Most panther species are tan or beige in color.

I've always liked big cats. It a shame that they all seem to be endangered. Here is the Florida Panther.

Why would he be called White Batman, considering he is dark? He is also regurarly referred to as 'The Dark knight'.
