As he said, the term is subjective...but the marketing campaign was indicitive of the difficulty of that which most who obtained the game were about to face. Most people knew that they were going to rage come hell or high water. Some people adapted better than others, but some people just pay attention more than others do. It doesnt mean the game isnt hard. If somethings harder you must challenge yourself to adapt to said difficulty. LOL To take away the idea that the game isnt intentionally hard (which it is for most) is to say that anyone who wants to try the game is fooling themselves for not accepting the challenge for themselves or wanting to be challenged in general.

When one says dark souls is not hard they are definitely speaking subjectively. Its a fact that the games mechanics were created for a desired effect...making it challenging or hard.

I don't get how you got that from the video ... like I said the video is titled terribly and the Haedox didn't do the best job of connecting his two points, but he's just saying that the games are about more than just difficulty, and that the difficulty is used to communicate that fact. You're not actually saying anything against him, you're agreeing with him. It's just an awfully titled video.

If someone said Dark Souls is not hard I wouldn't think that's elitist

If someone said Dark Souls is not hard LOL, in like a forum environment where someone is talking about the difficulty, probably elitist yeah.

He explained why the media stigma of a game being hard is like dark souls. Its probably indicitive that the gaming industry is ready to return to a formof difficulty that existed in before the turn of the century. Sure, the title might have gone overboard to you, but in reality he actually attempted to bolster his point in the video. He does make some good points, but I merely found a problem with him saying the game isnt hard. For some of us on this forum, hard difficulty is standard difficulty for most of us, but I would not say its not hard. Personally, I just so happen to like to be challenged to take myself out a mental comfort zone. Gamespot was having a conversation about this during the week where they questioned whether games like Cuphead or Darksouls would be as intended artistically if you toned down the difficulty. For both...I would say no. They wouldnt be as intended. Those games are for niche audiences, but because we've grown up with gaming those audiences who can take in harder games are actually growning rather than shrinking, hence why we have reached a Dark Souls 3.

Honestly you're going off in so many directions I don't understand what you are even talking about anymore in relation to my original comment. Was just asking how it sounds elitist. I mean, I guess in the most general sense naming a video "x is not hard" when most people think it is may sound elitist. But I don't think it actually is. Like you said, it's just an opinion over anything.

Sorry, if I was using the actual video and the media reaction as an example. Sorry if I went off target. The point is, believing x game is not hard, despite it being difficult for many who elect or dont even think to adapt is not elitist. The problem of elitism comes when said person elects to tell people that said game is not hard. Now where the person who made the video did well to remedy this is by telling the people he was speaking to how to think while playing these games in order to pay attention to their surroundings so they can soak in the challenge and learn from their mistakes with less error. The problem with this is that it will not work with everyone. Aptitude is just not as high for as many people. Does this make any sense? He gained points for being education and less condescending at that point.

Oh yeah, I guess that does make sense ^^ Now i get ya! I think the problem is people who use words too exclusively. Like when you hear someone say x is not hard, it's "challenging". Kind of the same thing really, just the latter is more descriptive. I guess i agree!

A souls game is hard the first time you play it as it doesn't explain anything. I didn't even know you could jump until 30 hours in, after restarting my first 20 hour attempt as I had leveled all the wrong stats and was pretty much stuck by lack of any explanation.

Now if you read a guide first, the game suddenly becomes very easy. You still need plenty patience though. (Shoot dragon tail 100 times from a safe position and other nonsense like that)

Eh, it isn't that hard true. Unlike most games, Souls games gives you a ton of options to overcome any challenge. And like any RPG, you can grind to become a little op if something is too hard.

Truly hard games are usually hard due to frustrating game design like Super ghouls and ghosts. Or require a ridiculous amount of precision like Ikaruga.

There's an "explain" button when levelling ... and it does teach you how to jump ...

I couldn't get past the goat enemy. I quit. The bosses are challenging, but the worst part is, is going all the way to them by beating the common enemies. It took me way too long just to try the boss again.
I never touched the game again nor any other game in the series. I tried to get into it, I love the dark fantasy setting. But at some point, it became way too tedious to do the retries.

I disagree with him. If someone says a game is like Darks Souls, they're not talking about it's engrossing storyline or music, it's the difficulty of the game. Dark Souls is synonymous with hard or difficult. He's just getting hung up on this gaming term.

If they had a easy mode for us who got no reflexes or time to repeat the same areas for hours and hours beacuse its to hard I would gladly buy the games but since they won't they lose me as a buyer... and not only me.

and no... they wouldnt lose anything by putting a easy mode  in the game... hell they can disable achievements/trophies for us who choose that mode beacuse truth to be told I dont care about that stuff.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
