As he said, the term is subjective...but the marketing campaign was indicitive of the difficulty of that which most who obtained the game were about to face. Most people knew that they were going to rage come hell or high water. Some people adapted better than others, but some people just pay attention more than others do. It doesnt mean the game isnt hard. If somethings harder you must challenge yourself to adapt to said difficulty. LOL To take away the idea that the game isnt intentionally hard (which it is for most) is to say that anyone who wants to try the game is fooling themselves for not accepting the challenge for themselves or wanting to be challenged in general.

When one says dark souls is not hard they are definitely speaking subjectively. Its a fact that the games mechanics were created for a desired effect...making it challenging or hard.

I don't get how you got that from the video ... like I said the video is titled terribly and the Haedox didn't do the best job of connecting his two points, but he's just saying that the games are about more than just difficulty, and that the difficulty is used to communicate that fact. You're not actually saying anything against him, you're agreeing with him. It's just an awfully titled video.

If someone said Dark Souls is not hard I wouldn't think that's elitist

If someone said Dark Souls is not hard LOL, in like a forum environment where someone is talking about the difficulty, probably elitist yeah.

He explained why the media stigma of a game being hard is like dark souls. Its probably indicitive that the gaming industry is ready to return to a formof difficulty that existed in before the turn of the century. Sure, the title might have gone overboard to you, but in reality he actually attempted to bolster his point in the video. He does make some good points, but I merely found a problem with him saying the game isnt hard. For some of us on this forum, hard difficulty is standard difficulty for most of us, but I would not say its not hard. Personally, I just so happen to like to be challenged to take myself out a mental comfort zone. Gamespot was having a conversation about this during the week where they questioned whether games like Cuphead or Darksouls would be as intended artistically if you toned down the difficulty. For both...I would say no. They wouldnt be as intended. Those games are for niche audiences, but because we've grown up with gaming those audiences who can take in harder games are actually growning rather than shrinking, hence why we have reached a Dark Souls 3.
