Forums - Nintendo - Axiom Verge creator pleased with Switch launch sales

Will be even better when Switch has achieved a good install base. Say what you want but an install base of 60 million makes a big difference to sales compared to an install base of 5 million. No games released on Switch yet are close to reaching their full potential.

Funny how indie developers always say it's a great console, easy to work with, their games sell very well; while 3rd party AAA devs stay very reluctant to port their games.

It's as if AAA publishers are hoping for Switch to die off.

They caught how the Wii U didn't die until Nintendo decided to move on itself right? IF the Wii U took that long to die, do you think the Swtich will perish that easily?

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Well, it's good to hear that despite all the bumps the team went through to get the game on the Switch it received good sales. I may wanna pick this one up some day in the future.

These indie devs are better at making the sorts of games that Nintendo fans like than the majority of AAA developers. Indie developers actually put thought and charm into their games. AAA developers just throw a lot of money, a lot of time, and a lot of resources at franchises and expect them to pop out as games with high sales potential.

Sorry, but there are a plethora of shitty indie games and wordefull AAA games... don't count the good Indies and bad AAA as if they were the norm.

That is because Indies doesn't make games that would be hard to process even on last gen consoles and the difference between version in all consoles and PC is negible.

You're ignoring the reality of what is occurring on Switch, and the reality of what the AAA industry is.

AAA games, like their blockbuster film counterparts, are manufactured for the lowest common demominator; the majority of the money goes toward elements that will impress your average gaming buffoon. The AAA industry is essentially a bunch of non-gamers who sit in boardrooms, they have their checklists from their market research and other corporate informants, and their chequebooks ready to sign off if the product matches what their checklists tell them - and they pour millions of dollars into financing the game. The only reason it exists is because it is something their info tells them they will probably make lots of money on. The bread and butter are franchises that can reliably sell each year, they don't evolve a great deal except in the sorts of areas that are straight forward: better graphics. The remainder of AAA games are attempts at seeing what other annual repeat franchises they can establish. They're not risk takers or creators, they're calculators.

The indie industry doesn't have that sort of oversight. They want to sell their games, but they have a whole different mindset of going about it. They're FAR more likely to make a creative and charming sort of game that they want to play. This spirit also tends to resonate a lot more with Nintendo fans, so when games like Axiom Verge, Stardew Valley, and Golf Story come along, they tend to receive a lot more attention than something like NBA2K18.

Yeah yeah... AAA games are stagnant and haven't evolved the industry in the last 30 years, thank god Nintendo fans will show us the way.
