The PS5 Exists.

Considering the 16k or higher someone posted in another thread I would say the game looks ugly at any resolution.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I just checked the game after patching, and the game does look 4K on my TV. It looks quite crisp. Not soft at all.

I think it might be using checkerboarding the way Horizon did, because both look pretty on par from a picture quality perspective. It also performs better, with the frame rate looking like it's locked at 30. Even though there's probably some small dips in certain situations, I couldn't notice any. Not stutter at all either.

It's not a game changing patch, for sure, bit the removal of jaggies for 4K TV users is a welcome addition.

Yeah, the general consensus seems to be checkerboard 4k. Plus, we 1080p users get some decent downsampling (though I don't think it's quite as visible as in some other games, the aliasing wasn't bad at all in the initial release), still, it's a free improvement, either way.

So maybe it's checkerboard? Don't think it would hit 4X the resolution compared to base PS4.

Hopefully Digital Foundry releases analysis video tomorrow.

The geomentry (edges) are 4K while the textures are checkerboarded by the looks of it. Similar to Gravity Rush 2.

No, everything has to be checkerboarded, and NX gamer has noticed artefacts on the geometry. I have seen real and perfectly native 4K images with zero artefacts and with clearly native 4K sampled textures and then I have seen clear hideous CBR artefacts in NX gamer video on the geometry.

I think the game uses a dynamic solution between native 4K and CBR 4K depending of the GPU load. In the NX Gamer video  the CBR artefacts are exactly in the most GPU demanding spot of the city where I think the game switches to CBR 4K. But I think most of the game may in fact run at native 4K like on those images posted on GAF, at least during gameplay.

Speaking of the Witcher, do I need to play the first two before I play this one?

I would, playing the Witcher currently, exclusive to PC though.

I wouldn't recommend playing 3 unless you have played the first two.

I had no idea what The Witcher was before I bought #3. It was maybe a little confusing at the start but there's enough character info in your diary to help fill in the gaps.

I would highly recommend playing 3 even if you haven't played the first 2.

You don't...you'll appreciate some things more in TW3 if you've played other two, but it's not really a must.

Honestly, you might even be a bit dissapointed with some aspects of TW3 if you've played previous games - going open-world somewhat cost them attention to details when it comes to world building.

Very noticeable clarity on the Pro. Bodes well for any aliasing in the game as well. Were these images taken after the the camera stayed still for a while or after moving a couple frames? It's possible the frames are getting reconstructed if you don't move.

Holy shoot....didn't expect to be that much of a difference. Looks like they even upgraded the texture resolution...?! Probably really just improved AF.

I'd still recommend playing the first 2 if one has a PC. The atmosphere, storytelling and characters are just amazing imho. That said they are quite expansive and I can understand anyone who doesn't have the time to go through all of them, especially since the fighting system in TW1 is a bit unconventional. Not forgetting TW3 even has 2 great expansions which I myself am still struggling to compete due to lack of time.
