People defending guns will just have to live with guns and all it brings

The shooter was found with over 10 assault rifles. Those would cost hundreds of thousands on the Australian black market.

I think its worth noting a vast majority of murders are actually done with handguns but those aren't the guns people primarily complain about.

They cost hundreds of thousands here too, on the legal market. An assault rifle is about $10,000 - $20,000 and there are significant legal restrictions on owning them (a six month long process + a $200 tax stamp.)

The spraying sound from the video and the number injured definitely puts what he had (at least some of it) as Class III weapons, which are about as illegal in the U.S as they are most places (certain private citizens can get them after the vetting process.)

Cars can kill people but we drive cars for transportation.
Knives can kill people but we use them for cutting food.
Bombs can kill people but we use the ingredients for every day chemicals.

AR15s can kill people but we use them to, uh, kill people......hmmm.

or to kill intrusive wildlife and for sport. The guy definitely didn't have a normal (unmodified) AR15 though.

I can't believe some people in the USA are still Anti-Gun Control. I believe that Israeli gun control laws are very reasonable and that similar laws should be implemented in the USA, it just doesn't make sense that mentally ill folk can easily get their hands on mass killing weapons...

Every shooting is a tragic event, I feel so sad for their families...

There is no way you can control guns in a country of such size. It's not even entirely possible in Australia.

What are the gun laws in Australia? We they altered in the past? Did they result in different results?

Yeah, they were banned in 1996 with the government allowing an amnesty for people to surrender their unlicensed guns without being prosecuted. The licensed ones were purchased back I think. But the rate of homicide with firearms was decreasing at the rate of 3% each year even before the ban. The ban accelerated that to 5%.

Its rather simple...

Crazy people with assault rifles can kill many people.

Inother countries the guy would have to use a knife likely

Like in France? Oh wait, assault rifles were used there too.

Statistically it does not.

Criminals will find means to get weapons. May as well have armed citizens to protect themselves

And how much good did that do?  Country music concert in an open carry state with 20,000 people.  That means lots and lots of "good guys with a gun". Did that help one damn bit?

Ok? Because it did not help in one situation it never helps. RIght.....

How many mass shootings have occured in Austrailia since 1996?

Do Australians look favorable upon the change or wish to go back to pre-1996 laws?

I think the emphasis was on "likely". You can't prevent it from ever happening. But when assault rifles cost hundreds of thousands on the black market, you can bet it will deter at least some people from going through great lengths to get them. Some will though. That's never going to change.

Why would money be a consideration when you plan to end your life anyway? People in Western countries have access to quite a bit of credit and since they have no intention of paying it back there is no care about interest rates. The process to get an Assault Rifle in the U.S is already quite rigorous and as I mentioned earlier 10 assault rifles are going to put you over a hundred thousand dollars. Australia's black market might be more supply constraint because it is an island country with an overwhelming majority of its population living along the coasts, making enforcement easier.
