Thanks for keeping the format. It could get annoying soon so I would advise you either skip that persons posts (if he refuses to use the same format) and cut and paste your own or my posts. Hopefully that person will respects the extra work involved when having to reformat every time and follows the format here.

No problem! Yeah, if he does half ass updates I'll ignore them and continue with the regular format.

I think it will be pretty close in the end, certainly closer than I thought initially. I think your predictions might be slightly too high for NA and EU, but certainly Japan is going to be a big equalizer for the Switch

If Nintendos plans for China come into fruition then WW numbers may well be much higher than just 10M for the Switch and put it on par with the PS4 there too. Europe will be counterbalanced by US and Japan, so there's actually a good chance that this will be at least an interesting race.

This. The EU certainly has more people, while JPN buys significantly more handheld consoles per capital.

These two could have an offsetting effect, but China could easily throw everything off target.

up to 45m

Oh, that low? That doesn't rule out Switch beating PS4 worldwide, though.

PS4:
NA: 40M
EUR: 45M
JPN: 13M
RoW: 22M
WW: 120M

Switch:
NA: 45M (Wii, 2nd)
EUR: 34M (Wii, 3rd)
JPN: 32M (GB, 2nd)
RoW: 10M (Wii, 2nd)
WW: 121M

Multiple Nintendo consoles have reached the required numbers in all regions. It's not impossible, just unlikely.

Broooo that japan number lol. That wont happen. Thats like crazy AF... But not impossible :p

The real question is:

Could the Switch beat the PS4 lifetime?

Of course.

The PS4 isn't doing hot in the USA and Japan, so Switch can beat the PS4 by around 10m in each country without too much of a problem. Switch can afford to finish behind the PS4 in Europe and the rest of the world with such an advantage.

Oh I agree. But not everyone sees it that way

Mainland China is a weird situation though since nobody knows how a traditional portable would fare there (I don't count the iQue attempts by Nintendo in the past as sincere efforts).  What we do know now with the relative failures of the PS4 and xbone in China is that traditional consoles are about as popular there as playing smartphone games on a TV.  Because of this, Nintendo might be better off just ditching the dock for the Chinese market and selling the Switch as a handheld that can also be played in tabletop mode. That would probably increase their chances for success in that market.

No, Europe will stop that from happening

The way I see it Playstation has practically no penetration in Japan. Switch will probably end up selling at least 20 mil in Japan

I think the PS4 and Switch could end up having nearly the exact sales in America, but then again the fact that Switch has consistently beaten PS4 in NPD's despite this being Switch's first year and PS4's best year thus far seems to be proving wrong my own prediction ....

I think in Europe it will do 20 mil

I think the biggest question overall is if the North American lead and the Japanese lead will be enough to hold the Switch as valuable competition. The lead in America could be anywhere from 4-7 mil, and the lead in Japan will be at least 9 mil.

So by Metric that would be 85 mil. But that's me not even thinking about how much a possible revision could do. I think the key with the Switch would be to make a portable version for Japan and getting the price lower.

Of course, the Switch is selling faster than every Nintendo console ever except the Wii in America, I don't know about Europe or Japan .. but that does mean that theoretically with enough revisions it could get there.

The PS5 Exists.

I would wait and see how the Switch does next year in the US before we make any solid conclusions....albeit this the best year for the PS4. It has maintained this pace since launch pretty much. And that is what the Switch would have to do in order to match or beat it in the US. Japan yeah the Switch will definitely do the PS4 in there. But if it ends up just tied with the PS4 in US....then with Europe and the rest of the world I could not see the Switch catching it with that scenario......but anything is possible!
