Ehh, I really think it was more so a problem on my end. Though I do wish the game had dungeons and sidequests....

Yeah, you get plenty of that from the traditional games. Play Diablo, Dragon Age and Witcher. They are all great games. Playing Ninendo right now is breath of fresh air. I really felt like my passion for gaming was lagging until the game just let me loose. The lack of story doesnt bother me so much (seeing as Shadow of Colossus is one of my top five favorite games ever). Have you played Diablo 3, Dragon Age and Witcher yet?

It's not about it being a traditional game .... quite frankily i'm sick of any criticism of the game being leveled at it as "from fanboys who can't change their tune".

I didn't even play Ocarina or Majora till July so I obviously am not a fanboy of the old games. It's just that the content in the game can be lacking. Clearly the Zelda developers themselves wanted their to be dungeons in the game, since the divine beasts act as dungeons. However, they're not exactly good dungeons. Very novel but not very good either.

And yes, i've tried all those games ... their dungeons are nothing like Zelda dungeons. Very odd comparison. I think it would be nice to have story sidequests. They don't even have to be restrictive like other games, just something with some cool stuff.

Just my opinion though. Still a great game. I will probably replay it from the beginning and actually finish it this time ... so 200hrs by the end of this year, lmao

Turn on the Pro- HUD mode in the game. It'll make your experience a lot better,

What exactly is the Pro- HUD mode?

A mode that you can switch in the options menu. I might have gotten the name wrong.. but the option turns off the map function along with the temperature meter. This pretty much forces you to explore the map with less guidance. Pretty cool option.

The experience of getting yourself do the dungeon is a lot more fun than the dungeon itself. When I was doing Vah Ruta... I had to face a Lynel on top of Plymous Mountain. I could have snuck past him... but I wasted all my weapons and my arrows to just barely kill him off. That's been one of my favorite experiences from the game. Having to seal surf in Vah Naboris was pretty great too.

you know, now you mention it I have not had a desire to play other open world games since I played BOTW. BOTW finally did open world right. And it is going to be a year or 2 before other series can steal the concepts used in BOTW to make their games work.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

You werent wrong. I looked for it after someone else brought it up in the options menu. Yes, I will definitely be using this for my second playthrough. Thank you. :)

I agree. I don't think that's a problem with the dungeon structure but with the game however. Actually, there was at least one time going to a dungeon was very boring for me. It was too easy and didn't last long enough. That's kind of true for all them but it made this one especially bad.

Breath of the Wild nailed it with it's world, I've never been so sucked into a gameworld before like I did into this one. The detail, the finesse, the scope and the freedom are mindblowing. The physics engine they created resulting in an unparallelled sense of realism not to be forgotten either obviously.

For a Zelda game the only thing that it's kind of lacking is the dungeons, which though has by now been mentioned by everyone. The four that are there are cool enough but those plus all the short shrines can still hold no candle to the big, grand, themed OoT/TP/SS-style dungeons. Nevertheless, even though dungeon design is a big part of why I like a Zelda game, this game is in any case the first game that has made me excited like I was in a very, very long time.

To be honest... I haven't used the mode either since it's my first Zelda game. When I 100 percent my current save... I'll do another playthrough with this mode enabled. It will completely change my experience of playing the game.

The game has structural issues that annoy me as well. My prime example is how every shrine is constructed with the same basic layout, with the same music, with the same objective, and ultimately the same reward. Breath Of The Wild works best when you're allowed to do whatever you want in the open world.

The side quests, trading, cooking and other things are enough for me. Finding random beasts and taking their weapons and deciding what I want to do makes this game special. I love the novel idea that the game forces weapons to break so you can try everything. I like the sword program in the witcher better, but this game allows for more freedom to select and try new things. Hell...climbing a mountain in this game gave me more of a sense of accomplishment in climbing than Uncharted. It didnt quite beat shadow of the colossus, but its right up there with Sonys exclusives on that front.
