Want a traditional RPG experience from the PS1 days? Go play just about any Atlus RPG ever made. There's at least six of them for the 3DS, and they are all amazing.

Didn't want to be a list warrior but since you asked...Etrian Odyssey Untold, Etrian Odyssey Untold II, Etrian Odyssey IV, Etrian Odyssey V (October 2017), Shin Megami Tensie IV, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology (2018), Shin Megami Tensie Strange Journey Redux (2018), Shin Megami Tensie Devil Survivor 2.
There's also Bravely Default, and Bravely Second on the 3DS.

are most of those games on ps1?
I like exvius, but I still preffer traditional FF.

No, but they are SNES/PS1 90's RPGs in spirit. I didn't mean that they were all PS1 ports, but that they were traditional JRPGs in every sense of the word, and would fit right in with the PS1 library.

Isn't that already possible? The 3DS is backwards compatible.

Etrian Odyssey II was the best recieved of the original trilogy. IMO the original DS trilogy games are unplayable with their unanimated alphamap characters, and high cost to reclass/respec a character. You had to drop ten levels, and EO4 changed that to two.
Atlus is well known for supporting systems well past their sell by date. Persona 3 and 4 came out on the PS2 in 2008 or later. Persona 5 came to PS3 this year. We will likely keep getting Atlus RPGs on 3DS until 2019.
To be fair, SE is mostly just enix now. There is little of squaresoft left staff wise. I mean if you want traditional jrpgs there ALWAYS is DQ which sells gangbusters in japan and sells FAR more that FF there. Making traditional FF just gets buried in japan by DQ, ehich is why the do what they do.
Now most of former square devs are either in alphadream making mario&luigi games (the true succesors to SMRPG), or in monolith soft, who makes open world real time RPGs RIGHT either way they are all under ninty now.
Its funny how FF7 was the start of all this... after cutting ties, most of traditional square devs ending up under ninty after a generation or two.
