Forums - Nintendo - Doom and Wolfenstein II The New Colossus coming to Switch

Thought this deserved its own thread, as one of the biggest surprises of today's Direct.

So much for Switch not being able to handle AAA PS4/Xbone multiplats

It doesn't? They had to rebuild FIFA 18 to make it run properly. NBA 2K18 runs at 30fps instead of 60fps and at a lower resolution. Sonic Forces is 30fps while 60fps on other consoles. DQ Heroes has a lower resolution and even goes below 30fps. DOOM took a big texture downgrade. Wolfenstein will no doubt go from 60 to 30fps. If you downgrade any game hard enough of course Switch will be ''able to handle PS4/Xbone multiplats''. Look at the difference between Modern Warfare on PS3/X360 and on Wii. The downgrades were enormous. Doesn't mean Wii  was able to run PS3/X360 multiplats.

OT: good for Nintendo to finally get some proper 3rd party support (although very less). But the downgrades and higher price don't make it worthwile for me.

The same could be said for pretty much every PS4/Xbone game versus the PC version.

And the gap between Wii and PS3/360 was far bigger than the gap between Switch and PS4/Xbone.

A handheld PS3 would be pretty sweet.

I want more to be honest.
Thankfully the Switch is more powerful than a Playstation 3, the games are evidence of that.

Fact that it'll be more optimized has me excited. The game definitely needs to be a Christmas game, as I expect it to be an instant classic like Breath of the Wild

It's a great game. Instant classic though? Well. It's already been out for over a year on the majority of platforms.
If you don't know what to expect by now, well. Cats.

Huge for the ecosystem of the Switch. Nintendo will have the most balanced library by far, with Nintendo do 1st party, quality 3rd party ports, and tons of indies.

The big take-away news from all this is that... The Switch is running iD Tech 6. So any future titles using the game engine should get a Switch release.
The Switch will still miss out on multiplats, especially from big hitters from EA and Activision (Battlefield and Call of Duty.) but it's a good start, Switch needs Frostbite support so you get to experience titles like Battlefield, Ass Effect, Dragon Age and so on.

I was actually referring to Prime 4. My bad

That's what you get for paying more money on a gaming PC: way better performance and that's why PC is considered the superior gaming platform. With Switch multiplats it's the exact opposite. You pay more (not only for the console, but also the games) for a very significant downgrade.

Of Course they will downgraded compared to PS4/XB1 versions of game, and some people were saying that Switch can handle at all even downgraded versions of PS4/XB1, which is ridiculous.

In TV mode you get downgraded games compared to XB1/PS4, but you also getting option for full handheld play that PS4 and XB1 versions of game of course don't offer, and that's actually game changer for some people.

I like how Bethesda of all companies just showed Switch can run these so called AAA games and proved the point of scaling, we already know Skyrim is the remastered version and now these two titles show up. Playing titles like these on the go is something else, Doom is out this holiday as well apparently.

Very shocking!

My purchase will depend on the inclusion of motion/pointer controls. I can't stand dual analog controls for shooters.

My chances of getting either are very slim as not a huge FPS fan. Though I have played most Doom games. Last one I had was Doom 3, so it's not completely out the window. I prefer story over multiplayer, and Doom has always put that first.

But without gyro aiming, the chances of me buying either are 0%.

I recently got Shadow of Mordor when it was on sale for like $3 and I can barely stand playing it, and have quit playing it. The dual analog aiming for the bow is just too damn annoying. If only I could have the slight gyro aim assist like in Zelda, I would have continued to play that game.

look like a decent port. We know it will be better than youtube shows. I hope with all downgrades, it can run 60fps
