How many games are being released on Steam on average and how many are avaible at this point. How many games are being released on PSN on average and how many are avaible at this point?

You're right. Steam has way more games to play that offer people a variety of games of their choosing that based on their preferences they can choose to play or purchase, whereas by comparison the PS store is very limited. Glad we got that covered.

And at what cost? That's right. Overall quality and progress has plummeted straight to the gutter, half finished, half arsed products and no end in sight. What good does it do when the choices are plentier but when scouring the Steam shop frequently i can't help but finding myself disappointed.

Quality over quantity. But i guess people like you will never learn that lesson. Blinded by the obsession that simply more is better. Instead of a straight forward and honest answer, there is some witty comeback. Even though the issue bothers people, myself included, and obviously Valve has acknowledged it. Not that they really do anything about it effectively. To give at least a partial reply to the question i posed: Last year ca. 4500 games were released via Steam. To date the PS4 library isn't even half that number. And for a very few exceptions, every game that quali-fied has been ported. Just to give a little insight on how much Steam and PSN differ and are in noway comparable. And you still like to pretend that the amount of 'shitty games' doesn't matter.

Sure Valve could have tighter control on what goes on the store but doesn't the quality issues fall more on the developers of the game than the storefront?  I'd blame shit games on developers.

Steam Direct has done very little to solve the issues that Greenlight had with the landslide of awful games being released every single day. The only real difference is that Steam now hides them from the front page so things seem better on the surface, but the actual problem hasn't gotten any closer to being solved.

It's like piling all your shit in the closet when you have guests come over.  Out of sight out of mind.

Pretty much. Valve seems to just plain refuse to actually do any quality control when it comes to games getting on their store, so instead they just put the less well regarded new releases into a more difficult place to find.

Actually, it is people like you that are the problem. People are only going to buy these shitty games if they want them. There are times where I've felt like buying a shitty game for the lolz, or because I thought the concept was fun. Now, I've never done it. Why? Because it's not hard to simply say "no" to a store page.

The problem with people like you is that A ) You believe quality is objective(it's not) and B ) You want to be upset at steam for allowing every game on their platform due to some quality control standards, but then act like Ps Store isn't comparable. At least Steam is fucking consistent, and isn't deluding a playerbase of people who specifically buy a console for it's quality control. It requires that you pay 300-400$ to access PS's shitty games, it only requires a free download on steam.

And if I had my way, I would prefer that Steam curated itself more. And you're right that the Steam* store is a bigger issue. I was just providing some insight because OP (who is pretty clearly a PS fan) seems to think this is exclusive to Steam. If I had my way, Steam would not only be more selective, but it would be purely a video game store. There's stuff like visual novels and even as a fan of Japanese entertainment I don't think that belongs on a game store. But, I recognize that the store isn't just for me..

Maybe saying "are we seriously going to pretend like the PS4 isn't the same" is hyperbolic, but it doesn't help that you and other repliers just took that and ran with it. You're still holding up this idea that the steam store is a huge issue, and that the few shitty games on PS4 are "no big deal". But that's exactly how Steam got to where it is, by allowing more and more games to slip through the cracks. I mean Sony even advertised Life of Black Tiger...

Whether I like it or not, Steam has become more or less the face of PC gaming. And part of the PC culture is allowing a free open market place of ideas. Just because I don't want shitty ideas on Steam , doesn't mean others don't. Just because I think certain products are shit doesn't mean they're objectively show. And of course some days i just want to sit back and add stuff like Assassinating Kim Jong Un or Suicide Simulator to my wishlist, praying for the day when I get so much money I can buy all the random shit I want with no care.

Now I'll admit the blame is on me for writing shitty replies and a very hyperbolic original post. I guess I just have been more and more detaching myself from  the idea of defending my viewpoints, since everyone on this forum seems to like long dragged out discussion.

And there are loads of other new releases not listed in the OP.

I don't care about Valve not curating. Let consumers decide what they want.

As Yuri pointed out before, you shouldn't be seeing said games showing up directly up front unless you liked said games.

My view when logged into the store:

What I find more irksome, is the fact that not curating a store allows for multiple games to strike lightning in a bottle, then one of the big 3 will simply snatch it up via some exclusivity deal, which is them trying to control how a game is sold, via another source that wasn't curating it. Basically piggybacking on a source that found the game first without doing much of the work.

Valve needs to curate their store, da fuq is this shit.

i find this slightly unusal. but not suprising...steam is really pushing indie games nowadays...i think its due to the lake of AAA titles.  I wish they would have gotten star wars battlefront.  I really not a fan of EAs software.

Steam is based on a little system called free capitalism. Anybody is free to offer services or goods, and anybody is free to buy them or not.

There are still AAA titles being sold on Steam. EA's games however are not, while Ubisoft and bethesda's still are.
