I say it's an obvious power play to oppress through fear, and the real danger is when he does get his hands on a nuke.

They won't use the nuke, if they did that would eliminate all deterrence as they'd be showing they're just going to use them anyway.

But it will substancially increase influence. You're right, he doesn't want to kill everyone, but he does want to rule supremely. Allowing him to have a nuke would make the suffering going on in North Korea worse, but would also make it harder to intervene in the future if he decides he does want to go full bat shit crazy.... Well even more so than now.

It won't really increase influence, their economy will still be in shambles, especially when they spend so much on the military and on making nuclear weapons.

"Do/do not do this or we'll nuke you" is a hell of a bluff that would be wise not to test. It's quite a bit of influence.

As I said, if they actually did nuke someone, it'd eliminate their entire gameplan as they can no longer use that as a deterrent.

Then millions die anyways. The world simply can't close their eyes to it and say he'll never use it. besides, people don't often build one bomb and say they're done.
