I remember that. I also remember people saying that the Switch would fail worse than the Wii U, and I also remember all the people saying that Nintendo is finished and will go out of business for at least the last 15 years.

I mean that depends on what you mean. The core of the special edition is a revamped engine and .esm file. I wouldn't be surprised if that is in tact since it is much more stable. A lot of the graphical features could be scaled back when undocked thought. Grass density and draw distance, draw distance of objects, items, characters, and LOD meshes, lighting effects, shadow draw distances, anti-aliasing, and anisotropic filtering can all be easily scaled or toggled instantly in Skyrim.
But to know for sure which version this is we need direct feed and we really need to see it docked.

I'll be happy so long as it runs well. The one happy surprise to me is just how good lower resolutions look on the Switch's smaller screen in portable mode... the resolution compromise is often obvious when docked, but looks great when held in the hand. |
Makes perfect sense to me, considering the screen really isn't that big. It's also leaps and bounds better than the 3ds, so if you're coming from that, the difference is like night and day.

Based on the screenshots I've seen in comparison to the Xbox 360/PS3 versions, it definitely looks like it's based on the Special Edition
X360

Switch

X360

Switch

Just keep in mind that the Switch shots are based on 0ff-screen gameplay so the quality may not be the greatest. But the effects and lighting in the Switch version definitely seems more in line with the SE version.

not as a high quality portable within an easy to use form factor

What were you expecting? Even the PS4 Pro version runs at 30fps, and since the Switch's screen is 720p, no game on it runs higher than that in portable mode.
I always wanted this game. It never came out on my platform of choice though.(My PC is not strong enough to handle this)
This game and Xenoblade 2 will devour any free time I have. Good bye social life
Seriously who thought it was a good idea to release two RPGs this close together?

Who the fuck said that? lol
didn't know Skyrim has third person view. :)
since it is an RPG, I believe. thinking about it. but won't buy a day one purchase since i wanted to complete BOTW first.

Yup, definitely looks like Switch version is based on special edition, but of course that doesn't mean it will be exactly same like PS4/XB1 versions (some compromises can be expected).
