Forums - Website Topics - Proposal: Get political threads off the front page

An so should we also remove other non-gaming centric topics from the hot section? Non-sense.

If someone is such a snowflake that the front page having some political thread is such a problem the person have more things to worry.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

A simple filter for the front page would work best. Dividing the hot topics into sections like it used to be during vgc 2 days is also a good idea. Radically removing the sections you don't like from the front page is the laziest of the 3.

I didn't realise hot topics had been divided before. When was that?

You know what, when I first posted this, I had hoped that the people that spoke with me about the political threads would have input their thoughts here. But now that I've taken the initiative to make this thread, it appears as though most of them have not spoken here. Now, it's made things much harder, because without their voices being heard here, it's going to be much harder to get a unified effort. I'm not sure if this is some sort of bystander effect, as in they've seen that I've made the thread, so more input is not seen as necessary, or if VGC is already seen as a lost cause to them. In any case, I don't want anyone who hasn't posted in here to feel guilty, it's just that it makes things a bit harder for me, as I'm trying to advocate for something that I don't necessarily agree with as a compromise, with the people truly wanting it not having their voices, thoughts, ideals and concerns expressed.

In any case, I think the goal should now be shifted to front page filtering, as I believe that is the solution that would be best for everyone.

I agree, please remove politics from the website entirely or at least give the option to hide them entirely.

I proposed these changes in mod chat, which I think would make the forums both easier to navigate and easier to moderate. 4 different forums, housing different kinds of discussion. Cut the fat. We keep the Forum Preferences Filter feature of the site, so you can check the boxes of what you do and don't want to see.

-

Gaming - General Videogame Discussion, Nintendo Discussion, PlayStation Discussion, Xbox Discussion, PC Discussion

Sales - Can be one consolidated forum

Website - Site Discussion, Announcements and Feedback

Off Topic - General Discussion, Political Discussion, NSFW Discussion

-

Make Political and NSFW Discussion so that they aren't automatically selected in the forum filters for all members. If you wish to participate in these forums, it's entirely your own decision to tick the box. Furthermore, moderators and administrators should have the powers to remove a members access to specific forums as a form of moderation.

Hmm, I guess my biggest weakness here is that I've become much too attached to the people here, and being the very emotional person I am, I probably am not the best person to be trying to lead this cause. I can go from being very happy and motivated one moment, to feeling hopeless and depressed the next So, I think we'll just see what will come of this from here on.

Well when you have someone screaming "shut up minority" there is little incentive for the silent to ever attempt to speak.  A fairly hostile thread with mods making it clear they don't have any control over anything like this.

Probably better off just having those people you are talking about PM/message ioi and sauros.

Again, a light-hearted joke. The concept behind it was simple; I thought I'd use a political phrase in a thread that opposes political topics on the front page.

An example of a vgc member who took it as a joke (or so it seems): http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8526702

And I've already apologized for it. What more do you need?

am I the only one to notice that we get a thread like this one every year? If you don't like political threads don't click on them.

I agree with your sentiments. At the same time, we still need some adjustments.

That's all the opposing side ever wanted. Adjustments, not radical changes.
