Forums - Sales - PS3 HITS 5 MILLION in OTHERS

onepiece, you know what I mean. They weren't failures. It's just that neither of them could even blow in the direction of the Ps one and Ps2 because both were so far away. The Wii will be the first console ever to compete against one of them though.

What do you expect between the 2 best console makers in history?

Damn things have changed since 2009 began. Here are my new visions for the end of the generation.

Wii: 135 mil

Ps3: 85 mil

360: 60 mil

Well done PS3! Get that ever elusive price-cut and sales will be amazing :D

I agree with darkprince. Ps3 will NEVER win the casuals with games. The only thing the casuals will go for with the Ps3 is its multimedia capabilities, which are large, and blu-ray not games.

Leo-j, 360 is cheaper than the Ps3. How's the price advantage helping it now? Not as good as the $400.00 Ps3 is it? People get the Wii because they want to PLAY it! Is that so hard to understand? You have to come up with something everytime the Wii does good. (Which is all the time considering it always does good.)

Remember leo-j, if price really mattered, 120 million of us would have Gamecubes sitting hooked up to our Tvs.

That would be a worthwhile comparison if the Gamecube cost half the price of the PS2.

Price is the single biggest factor for the mainstream casual market, and sales increases as a result of price cuts reflect this fact. The PS3 is the only console that doesn't have an SKU within the mass market price point.

congratz to the PS3

Right so casuals will buy a PS3 because of LBP?

Puh-lease!
I like my PS3 and all but it's obvious by now it will never win the casuals.

Because casual gamers cant play mario( a hardcore game) sure.

Causal gamers play games, just not as much as we do thats the difference.

lol at Mario being hardcore. Mario is for EVERYONE.

Btw, not to troll or anything (not sure if this can be considered trolling, but...) I don't really seeing LBP doing so well. It dosn't seem to be a game most PS3 owners might get into. I see PS3 owners getting into shooters like MGS4 and RPGs like FF XIII, but LBP...I don't really see it have a lot of success. Something tells me it's just an overhyped game that might sell average but it definitely won't be a SMASH hit. This is just my opinion, so...

Good for PS3 on eaching 5 mil inOthers, though.

That is the whole point of that game, to appeal to not the typical PS3 user but bring in a new crowd.

The casual and hardcore consoles, both labels I despise really, have already been decided. Neither console will capture much of the market the other has targeted so suggesting a price drop and a title or two is all it will take is like staring at the wind and taking a piss hoping not to get hit.

Congrats to PS3 for hitting 5 million. Europe has certainly come through for them....again. Spain likes Sony because the market has allowed Sony to set up PS stores over there to the point it has become ubiquitous. Spain, and Europe as a whole, has an "I play my fathers console" mentality. Meaning they are very brand loyal.

Casuals go for a console that has many casual/non-gamer type games on them, and doesn't come with a hefty price. The Wii filled this description with it's relatively low price (though not cheap in any sense) and fun simply games like WiiSports. Now, casuals can go play games like Mario (which isn't a completely hardcore game anyway), but like you said, they don't play games as often as we do, so they are unlikely to go for another console when they can't play games on their first console all the time already. That's why it's so important to grab the casuals, because they are very unlikely to own more than one console.

It's interesting that the PS3 is just doing so well in Others, with nearly 50% of it's userbase in that region. It's also interesting that the 360 is the exact opposite in a way, with more than 50% of it's userbase in NA. The Wii is pretty diverse, around 45% of it's userbase in NA, 35% in Others, and 20% in Japan. These are rough estimates. It's good that each console has it's own strengths. Mario Kart next week should add a lot of interesting discussions, not to mention GTA4 the week after that (or in 2 weeks..?).

I think i have to agree with you on that one Soriku... I wish it wasn't though but i just can't see the game doing as well with the casuals as some people are hoping!

You never know, it might be a sleeper hit though, will just have to wait and see what happens close to and on release!

Congrats to Sony. "Others" is Sony's best chance of winning a region this generation.

Leo-j, the casuals will not be flocking towards the PS3.

1) There are no games that casuals will want. According to Gamerankings, the only casual games that are decent are Rock Band and Guitar Hero. And Rock Band's price isn't so casual. With the addition of LBP, I doubt there will be too many games they'll want to play. Check if you want to prove me wrong.

http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp

2) Price does not influence decision greatly enough to motivate people to buy a new console. It has been proven in the history books that even though a console is cheaper it does not mean it will win. Case and point, The Gamecube. The Gamecube was cheaper than the PS2, but did that help it win? No, it didn't? Well all the great games MUST HAVE made it won? No? Do you see parallels between the two generations? Also, the 360 is close to the price of the Wii, and is the lowest selling console. If people don't wat a console, price won't change their mind.

3) If the PS3 did get new buyers, the Wii could steal them back. The PS3 has exhausted many of its trump cards. Price drops, new colors, bundles, "AAA" games, and new controllers. With all of this, it did not manage to pass the Wii. If the PS3 did manage to steal Wii buyers, they could create a "Casual Bundle." WiiSports, WiiPlay, and WiiFit + the Wii for 300$. They could release new colors, red, blue, green, and they could drop the price. A price drop won't affect profits significantly enough to make an impact on their finances, but it will bolster sales.

I want a well-thought out and convincing argument that retracts all of these reasons leo-j. I do not want a fanboy answer like "Wii doesn't have games" or "NO 3RD PARTY!!!". I want reasons and support.
