The NES came out in 1985. Nintendo has been "at this" longer. They have gifted, skilled and capable engineers. They have implemented voice chat into previoius games, which is arguably a more difficult solution than incorporating it into the OS itself. But even if they didn't have the capabilities and knowledge they have outsourced the development of other projects in the past. There is no excuse for this.

Came out earlier than that IIRC, but it's release date is irrelevant. I was clearly talking about a gaming network. Nintendo is newer than that than MicroSony, fact. I'd take issue with the apparent reality that the app has issues, not with the service requiring an app and cell phone.

Another key difference is price. It's pretty hypocritical when all last gen the excuse for PSN vs XBL was PSN was free and XBL was $60. Yet now apparently Nintendo is supposed to match the others in features at 1/3 the price.

If they sort out the issues with the app then I really don't care about needing a phone an app. I already use the apps for PSN/XBL for sending messages and viewing community stuff. So the headphone jack goes into the phones aux port instead of the controllers. The horror!

Nintendo chose to be "new" at this by ignoring what MS/Sony/PC developers have been doing for decades. That's on Nintendo, and it's no excuse. There's no reason why the Wii U and 3DS didn't have voice chat built into the OS. Nintendo just decided not to do it.

Price has nothing to do with it. It wouldn't be acceptable solution in 2006 if this was Sony's solution for voice chat on PS3 and it was completely free. Besides, you get more than just network play for that $60 PSN/XBL subscription, so let's not pretend that that's all getting pocketed by those companies to do nothing but maintain their network.

Have you considered that many Nintendo Switch users might not have phones? Fuck them, right? There's no reason not to offer mutliple solutions, many of which Nintendo has offered on their previous consoles, but chose not to on the Switch.

Around the Network

I would think they didn't have a firm grasp on what their audiences wanted in an online experience.

He's been told many times. He's trolling.

Silly me, I thought playing with friends was kind of the whole point to voice chat. I suppose being able to talk/msg but not play with friends is worth the price.

Lol I actually just chill in xbox parties a lot I mean.. It's simple stuff and I'm ticked about how nintendo is doing it cause I'm thinking about getting a switch but if this doesn't go well then no switch for me for awhile. and if MS or Sony took it out I'd be ticked as well. what's the point of going backwards? Make an app that's a cool option but that's all it should be, an option of how you want to voice chat, not the offical way to voice chat.

You can think it's no excuse. I'm cutting them slack because I think it's a valid reason. It's also $20 compared to $60 for the others, so I'm ok with it not matching features. Again you're welcome to disagree :)

I'd be a little confused it they did it, but then I wouldn't care because I never use voice chat, I find it weird and uncomfortable.

They'd probably get trashed like Nintendo is right now. But since they already figured out how to correctly do online a decade ago it would probably just be another option to use, which is absolutely fine.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I would go with either sony of microsoft if they decided not to do this and the other decided to do this as my first next gen console.

It would be a step down even if It wouldn't hurt my experience 2 much because my main is on PC but that is the biggest problem if they did it, PC would have a much higher appeal all the sudden to people who prefer consoles.

Bad situation but it won't happen

Theoretically if I used it and it was to come to the ps4 in that way I would be extremely annoyed and no doubt ps4 gamers would be going bananas and rightfully so. In reality I dont use it at all so wouldn't affect me.

Having said that Nintendo have always been quirky so people will put up with it to play their games.

I'm already salty the Sony had to release a second app for text chat when the original PSN app with the built in messenger worked fine, If any company did this, regardless of how loved they are and what quality products they bring to the table, it is a shite idea.

As a hardcore Sony fan (you want proof? Ok: my favorite game is... that one with zombies in it, yeah that, you know, I'm not very good with game names. Well, of course my favorite game is not Captain Toad: Treasure Trackers, lol that's for Nintendo kiddies lol not like me) I think that it is an improvement over Sony one.

I've always dreamed of beeing able to use my mobile phone to comunicate directly with othe people and now I'm able to do it. I'd hope Sony would create something similar, but I'm afraid that they don't have the technology... Maybe they should ask help from the Squid Research Lab lol.

GO SONY!
