Square Enix has been showing a ton of support for Switch thus far. But if there’s one big hole missing in the company’s lineup, it would be Kingdom Hearts III.

IGN asked director Tetsuya Nomura about the possibility of Kingdom Hearts III coming to Switch. He started out by saying that the system “is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware,” though other platforms are the focus currently. After the initial launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One though, Nomura did say that “maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”

Nomura’s full words:

“The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware, but if we lightly say, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll be on the Nintendo Switch,’ I’m sure people will come back and say, ‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One? We want them out first. Don’t focus on other platforms.’ So for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”

A ton of support for switch? With dragon quest?

I mean sure they should..... but the fact they are hesitant to release remastered ps2 games on anything but ps4 says something.....

....You know Nomura, porting things like the HD collections is usually the job of guys like Tantalus, not your A team's job.

IT wouldn't actually hurt you.  It wouldn't cost that much and it would sell. Chain of Memories, 3D, 358 days, and maybe Recoded sold well....

....Must I trust Konami more than Square Enix these days.......

That's going to take a long time if they were to release a port with acceptable performance. A lot of assets will need to be reworked and then re-optimized. So I expect a PC version announced even before a Switch version starts development.

It's not going to be as simply as just toning down graphics though. They need to rework a lot of stuff and re-optimize which will take time. They can do a simple port but it will easily become the worst version of the game( example is the Dragon quest heroes switch ports).

I just want nomura to finish final fantasy 7 remake, I don't care what he does after lol

when it has around half the power the xbone does undocked? it won't need that much, especially since the switch's cpu is up to snuff. 720p docked 480p undocked might be enough of a lift to run it for one.
