they've been dominating japan since the Nintendo DS.
But yeah, the Switch is doing pretty well too.

???.?.?.
But this thread is about the first 6 months in Japan this year? Switch is the only one reaching 1 million. |
And my post is about the hear and now. Nobody expected it but ps4 somehow back #1. Almost 30k sales this week. Insane for the summer baseline.

Is this serious post!?
This are sales for 1st 6 months of 2017. and sales numbers of hardware and software show how much Nintendo is dominating in Japan. Fact that PS4 sold around 3-4k more than Switch last two week doesn't change anything especially, when we know that Nintendo in 3 weeks will ship much more Switch units for Splatoon 2 launch.

And is also off-topic, so get back on topic or find a more appropriate thread.

And this is thread about last 6 monts, not about last 2 weeks.
Nobody really expected that Nintendo will not able to ship more than 25k almost 4 monts after launch, only reason why PS4 is last two weeks is best selling console in Japan because Nintendo is still isn't able to ship more Switch units.
Both of these Japanese Company's must have a gentleman's agreement between them. You all know they could totally make games that are a practically a carbon copy of their neighboring exclusives.
It appears to me at least that they choose not to step on each others toes. PlayStation could make a Mario Kart game and have a large line up of family friendly games made at any time, but they haven't with their friendship they choose not doing so.
They are the perfect gaming environment for my tastes. Like salt and pepper shakers at the dinner table. I hope they both stick around forever because their games are our food pyramid to a healthy lifestyle.

It's probably because they'd prefer stability, because if one of the companies fall it could affect the other too, so they're trying to maintain the status quo.

If console games were just 1 dollar they would also sell more.

Huh? Sony has tried numerous times to make Nintendo-like games for their consoles, including several attempts at Mario Kart. There's no gentleman's agreement here, only Sony failing time and time again while NIntendo has no need to imitate any of Sony's games because none of them are big sellers in Japan. Additionally, Nintendo made the effort to get Monste Hunter exclusively on the 3DS which impacted the prospects of Sony's Vita tremendously; and now rumor has it that Sony paid Capcom to keep Monster Hunter World away from Switch. Nintendo and Sony are definitely not on good terms with each other. |
They tried to make Nintendo-like games, but I honestly don't think they ever expected them to be the huge successes that Mario Kart and Suepr Smash Bros. are, more that they're trying to fill as many genres as possible for potential buyers. They may not be on good terms with each other, but they'd rather them both be there than a situation where both of them are at risking failing or having to deal with outside threats.
