I'd actually really like to see Nintendo try their hand at an FPS.

Well there was already Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS, developed by Nintendo Software Technology, heard it was pretty good, but would've benefited from a dual thumbstick control scheme.

I was thinking something from EPD more along the lines of Overwatch/Paladins, but with a campaign.

I wonder if people would prefer this with original characters, or would they want it to be another compilation of previous Nintendo characters i.e. Smash and Mario Kart.

Personally I would much prefer it to be a new IP, a la Splatoon. It'd feel more fresh that way.

I know I'm in the minority with this but I really like the free NES and SNES games on the NSO service so much. I'm on a trip down memory lane these days and I love so many classic video games from that era soooo much, and I think a big part of it is due to the fantastic music. Many of these games have such great soundtracks that I can listen to all day and I will never get tired of. like Megaman, Castlevania, Contra, Super Mario Bros, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Clu Clu Land, Balloon Fight, Final Fantasy, Dr. Mario, Ninja Gaiden, Metroid, Zelda, Kirby, Startropics, and on and on and on. I am completely addicted again! And those are just the NES games, the SNES has a ton more also. I am a very happy gamer these days.

Cuphead is still going strong. I honestly wouldn't have expected that.

Well, just finished the Outer Worlds on Switch.

The game itself is now retroactively my GOTY for 2019, and while the port itself was rough, it was playable and didn't ruin the game's core greatness. Hopefully the incoming patch redeems it a bit, as right now it seems like it's been written off as crap just on the basis of Digital Foundry and cherry-picked screenshots of it at its worst.

Since I doubt we'll ever get GoldenEye or Perfect Dark on Switch, they could make it their answer to those games.

Also, am I the only one who was a little disappointed that the Nintendo Switch startup sequence can only be played once on your Switch system?

Just some kind of Nintendo take on the FPS genre, just as Splatoon was their take on the TPS genre, would be an intriguing proposition to me.

And I don't mind too much to be honest.

I don't think you're in the minority... The games being offered are fine, but the problem is that such a small portion of their library is available. No reason more consoles couldn't be represented, and more titles.

I think it will happen eventually. It appears like they want to chop it into thin slices and drop a few games every now and then in order to maintain the long term appeal. We can like or dislike this strategy all we want, but more games and platforms will come, I'm pretty sure. I guess it's matter of attitude but instead of being grumpy about the things I do not have, I rather enjoy the things I do have.

It's not just about things we don't have, it's about things we are paying for. As for whether or not Nintendo will release other platforms, I don't know.  Nintendo is bizarre when it comes to things like this. The 3DS had a perfectly functional GBA emulator from about 6 months in, yet Nintendo didn't release GBA games.  They released DS games on the Wii U only instead of 3DS.  3+ years into the Switch's lifespan, and Club Nintendo still offers rewards for the 3DS and Wii U and not Switch.
