It's not just about things we don't have, it's about things we are paying for. As for whether or not Nintendo will release other platforms, I don't know. Nintendo is bizarre when it comes to things like this. The 3DS had a perfectly functional GBA emulator from about 6 months in, yet Nintendo didn't release GBA games. They released DS games on the Wii U only instead of 3DS. 3+ years into the Switch's lifespan, and Club Nintendo still offers rewards for the 3DS and Wii U and not Switch.
