I know, I just wish someone would take a risk and making something incredible. There is a chance they could reach even greater sales with a VR only game. I see GTA as a standard setting IP, one that ushers in new technology, and advances the industry. Moving to VR only would be the most Rockstar/Grand Theft Auto move they could make. In my opinion a large 4K GTA would be a disservice to the brand, but that is just me. |
How is it a standard setting new tech IP if GTA 5 wasn't even't confirmed to come out on this gen's hardware! People even claimed it would never happen and you should buy the ps3/360 version... GTA 6 will focus on running on ps4 and xbox one first, not the pro or Scorpio nor next gen hw. Which is fine, more chance ps5 can handle it in VR without any sacrifices. Though I hope it doesn't take until the end of the gen for GTA 6 to come out, and that they will include VR support for ps4 and perhaps Scorpio by then.
Perhaps they'll make a new VR only IP, follow up to LA Noir is possible. Something slower paced to be comfortable for more users. I don't think the world is ready for 1st person VR only GTA, 1st person mode in GTA 5 got plenty criticism already!
Should Naughty dog make tlou2 VR only? It would sell a few more headsets, it would make many more people angry I bet.
This would be a great get for the Switch and in keeping with unusual last-gen ports coming to Nintendo now.

GTA5 is still the most detailed open world game I have played. It may not have every graphical bell and whistle, but the attention to detail is far beyond anything else. Horizan is the most beautiful open world so far, but it does not capture every little nuance like GTA5.
As far as GTA6 launch. I think with RDR2 coming next year, it is going to be a long time before we see GTA6. I really would not be surprised to see it in the first year of PS5 whenever that may be.
I would not mind a follow up to LA Noir, or a brand new franchise built around VR. 2K has already been doing quite well at the publisher level, I know NBA 2K and Carnival Games VR are both published by them. So it is very possible they would be willing to take a chance on something bigger.
TLOU2, I would absolutely love it if they made it a 3rd person VR only expereince with motion controls. I think it would be very important to be in 3rd person due to how much the connection between characters is what really makes it a special expereince. The emotional connection would be massively amplified in a VR setting.
I get what you are saying though. I can already see the protests over a VR GTA, and how it is hurting the children. Even though no one under 12 is supposed to use VR, and no one under 18 is supposed to play GTA. I still think it is an extreamly important piece of popularizing VR, and growing the franchise.
At any rate, I really hope this LA Noir rumor for PSVR is true. It will be a day one buy from me if it is.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I'm wondering if VR could solve the silent protagonist conundrum. 3rd person games work better with emotional stories as the game is doing the acting for you. In a recent interview Sony said they're working on natural language AI as a good fit for VR. Which means next gen you might actually be able to talk with characters and become Joel. No more camera pull back for acted out cutscenes or choosing standard replies from a dialog wheel, instead actually having a conversation, getting feedback on questions, giving orders. That would really place you in the game and remove the barrier of being an observer during story segments.
It will have many challenges though. Atm stories are written with the characters having all the foreknowledge and informing the player of what's going on through conversation. Or you have the clueless blank slate silent amnesia suffering protagonist in 1st person games. Some kind if middleground would be nice. Maybe a small blurb or background intro of what kind of character you're playing before the game starts to avoid things like, "Who the hell are you", "Dad, I am your daughter"
Perhaps it will lead to a new form of let's plays as the performence of the player becomes more important in the game. Trophies for acting prowess / staying in character in the future? Or a psych eval of the character you played at the end of the game. Characters treating you differently based on your actions was also one of the things they were looking into. We might finally get a revolution in interactivity instead of the slow evolution we've had for the past decades.
I missed out on this game last gen, I might give it a shot in VR.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

GTA VI being VR exclusive will never happen and it'll be anti consumer since there are many out there who love non VR games.
Not everyone has to fit in your dream world design.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Some of those cases though... I'm not really sure I want to be poking around a dead naked womans body while people in a cafe are looking over my shoulder, would make masturbation very difficult.
