Forums - Gaming - From a true gamer point of view, should I really buy a Switch?

It basically comes down to how much you like Nintendo games and how long they'll be fun to you. You should not expect big 3rd party games on the Switch if you value your money.

Just so you know Dragon Ball Fighter Z is being considered for Switch, devs are just waiting to see if there's enough fan demand for it, I think that by early 2018 we might get a confirmation of the game coming to Switch since the Switch will sell A LOT during the Holiday Season

PS4.

There is one rule in gaming: "Nintendo consoles only works as secondary consoles". That is true since the Wii.

Also, if you are short on money, it's better to get a PS4, right now you can easily find a PS4 slim for less than a Switch.
And if you are someone who is patient, games are a lot less expensive too on PS4, and so are accessories.

The only 2 reasons I can think of to buy a Switch are :
-You play games mainly outside of your home
-You have no control over yourself and you can't wait until the Switch becomes a cheap console to buy it and its games.

Me, I have a PC, I'm getting a PS4pro next christmas, and I'll wait until the Switch has a decent price to buy it

In the same circumstances, loving Nintendo games and not having a Nintendo console since Gamecube I'd probably buy a s/hand wii u with all the best wii u and wii games I could get for the money. I'm just thinking of all the games you have missed out on. For the price of a Switch in the uk I could buy a new ps4 and s/hand wii u.

I understand your point about darkness and sometimes Nintendo games are just more appealing on certain levels so you certainly won't go wrong with a Switch. However the reality is you will have a fairly limited range of games to choose from and they won't be at the same performance level as ps4. I really think if you weren't that happy/impressed with ps3 then ps4 may not be the choice for you though. It's pretty much the same developers across both.

It sounds to me that you won't be buying a huge library of games and will be focusing on each game you buy quite extensively with a lot of time spent per title so in that regard the Switch is really good. You can spend 100s of hours in Zelda Breath of the wild and no doubt 100s when Mario Odyssey comes out. Then there is Mario Kart and I guess Smash Bros and Arms plus some other stuff. I can see you being quite satisfied with your Switch purchase and getting great value out of it and you'll be able to do that at home and take it with you.

I assume the competing console would be PS4. I think making a list of games for each console which you would like to play would be a first. You have to factor in, that the Switch can be used mobile though.-Think how often that works for you (travels, commuting).

Resist with your current console and some new games for it and wait until Switch has a lot more games, then you'll be able to make a wider and more significant comparison with other consoles and take more easily a decision that you won't regret.

You're gonna miss out on Ratchet & Clank if you don't buy a PS4 though!

Enjoy you Switch

That's the problem I can have control over myself to wait until the price drops but I can't buy anything else in the mean time... Having two consoles is too much money for me right now.

I think this was not something about Switch vs Ps4 for me, since I  think both consoles are pretty neat... It was more about "From someone who has experienced both" thing. I would choose a Ps4 + Switch later in the road any day, but I can't affort it that easily and having to pay for 2 online services would take away a game from me every year.

I won't be able to buy a large library of games, you are right... Maybe having 10-15 this generation is being realistic... Right now I can only think of are:

Smash

Mario Oddysey

Arms (I need to try it myself)

Zelda (Duh)

Metroid

Splatoon 2 (Here's hoping it's as good as everyone says)

The new SMT that's coming

The Pokemon game

Hoping for a MH (I can do just fine with XX)

Project Octopath Traveler looks amazingly good!

Mario Kart 8.

Disgaea 5 looks like a lot of fun too.

Not a fan of Ratchet & Clank. What hurts me is the Crash Trilogy really, I can play those games for days lol!

I'd say go PS4. You'll miss out more games going with Switch. You'll miss Nintendo but I think the quantity Sony has partially makes up for it. It's tough that you have to choose though.
