Forums - Gaming - Why are Xbox and Playstation lumped together in sales metrics, but not Nintendo?

Because Nintendo is just better than ordinary consoles. I know. The truth hurts sometimes.

Wii U was bombing pretty hard

Xbox One is trailing Playstation 4 more than 2 to 1. What's the criteria to be counted in the circle? It seems kind of arbitrary.

It's called moving the goal posts to suit your needs. It happens.

Some nintendo people will get upset if you make any thread showing how badly the wii u is doing compared to the other 8th gen consoles and other nintendo people get mad when you don't include the wii u in any sales comparison with other 8th gen consoles. *Shrugs

The wii u isn't revelant in the dicussion of sales unless you're trying to point out it's bad sales or that it's the worst selling nintendo hardware ever. It's just not worth mentioning the wii u anymore.

Virtual boy sends his regards with 1,26 million units.

Generally we get those numbers that combine PS4/XBO from 3rd party publishers/developers, and from their point of view, those two are very similar, the Switch or the Wii U however did not fit into that comparison, and 3rd parties didn't support the Wii U very much, so why would they use its sales as a talking point with investors?

That is pretty bad but I was talking about home consoles and handhelds. I don't even know what to classify virtual boy as other than just saying it's a console.

the fact that they still make Xbox1s and discoutinued the wii u says its not arbitrary.

WiiU is finished and Switch isn't a home console. It's a portable console that can be docked at home. It's so much a handheld that they nixed discs and went with cartridges. Switch should be put against PSP, Vita, and 3DS. The only home consoles at the moment are PS4 and X1.

PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS

A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!

They aren't comparable. Sony and MS directly compete for the same market and therefore they get lumped together in comparisons. Nintendo, when they do it right, go for a different market. This time they're doing it right.

And giving information as PS4+XBO+Wii U last year would've made the situation look much more dire considering they were already reporting the XBO, might as well cut off an already dead limb.
