The Wii U didn't had droughts because Nintendo software output wasn't enough. It was selling abysmal numbers, so Ninty quietly created the Switch and started moving their dev teams to it. Come on, the console launched in March in they already have a 3D open world Mario, Splatoon 2, Kirby, Yoshi, Xenoblade and more with 2017 dates. Sum that with Zelda, MK8 and the fact they're working on a new Metroid. It's clear that Wii U droughts were simply Nintendo abandoning a sinking ship (it's not a critic, they were correct in doing so). Switch will get software support as long as it sells well and makes profit. It's not the other way around. Wii U would have failed even if they released 2 games per month. They are releasing minor titles on 3DS, the support is clearly reaching its end (Pokémon is big, but it's hardly more than a modded version of last year's game). Of course, they won't go out telling everybody that it's on final legs because that would kill sales. So they'll keep it for now. Switch is at 300 bucks, 3DS still has a niche. As soon as Switch starts dropping its price, 3DS will begin to fade. |
seriously- at this point Nintendo is probably make a decent amount just on 3DS system sales alone, as since 2011/2012 it's probably gotten a lot cheaper to make them. why would they cut off easy income from a system they don't have to do much with anymore?
and look at the release schedule, it's kind of getting quiet for 3DS. A rerelease of Pok Sun/Moon is a huge sign that Nintendo isn't putting huge focus on the 3DS but rather just wants to make easy money off of it while it's still around.
What I'm seeing around here is people who literally seem to want Reggie to say that the 3DS is dying in a year, when that would be crazy to announce (even if its likely true) when they're about to release a new 150$ model
